Operating the newer type GPS

Postby dtrfish » Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:04 pm

I've downloaded lots of addon aircraft, and quite a few have come with the newer style GPS - I think it's the Garmin 530, in a slick shade of black.

Being a lazy kind of flier, a lot of my "flightplans" consist of taking a look at the map, deciding "hey, let's go there" and using the "Direct to" function on the GPS. Set the autopilot NAV mode to GPS and Bob's my uncle, provided the weather stays VFR...

Here's the problem - on either of the standard GPS sets, you hit "Direct to", then activate the cursor to enter/type in the required 4 characters. On the 530, as soon as you press "cursor" it takes you straight back to the map view. The real pain is, I know one of the aircraft I've downloaded came with a manual for the 530, but I'm stuffed if I can remember which one, and I delete the packages once I've installed the plane.

So - does anyone have, or have a link to, a manual for the Garmin 530, or maybe just know how to manually enter airport codes into it? It's currently sat there with a flightplan from London City to Manston, which is of very little use when I'm flying a US Coastguard C-130 over Alaska!

Many thanks in advance.
