Oh NO Not the dreaded instrument check ride!

Postby EVVFCX » Thu Dec 03, 2009 1:07 pm

Hi All,

Found an annoying problem with this check ride.

Many years ago I completed the fs2002 check ride fairly easily and without joystick (long story)at the time and thought it was time I did the fs9 version of the same test, so there I was, armed with charts and read the fs2004 guide to passing this test.

It quoted, fly heading of 66deg until you intercept sea vor radial 338 and fly over FACTS. Now here right away is a problem: (My charts say 341deg not 338) I did this, nicely lined up and waited till 16.5 miles from seavor (chart says 17 but just to be safe :) ) before decending towards 3000ft.
She, as in the instructor failed me for not passing over FACTS.
Not being happy about this (well who would be!)I checked something: loaded up flight in same area, used map view and placed my little cessna over FACTS with fs9 paused, returned to cockpit view and with vor1 tuned to 116.8 as in seavor and set radial to as close as possible to 338 deg and guess what? I was not on the radial, so I reset it to 341deg and with very little surprise to myself I was on the radial.

SO :) the guide to passing this test is wrong.
Now the other little problem is: as mentioned above, my charts show 341deg. The charts you can print from this checkride show 338 deg which I now know is wrong.

Anybody come across this themselves before?

regards

steve.

I once tried the lessons and checkrides myself (way, way back in history). Lesson 1, this 'teacher/instructor' (what's his name, Ron or Ralph) start yapping to me. I quit the lessons and never tried again.

It's a known fact that the checkrides are very difficult if not impossible. The first few can be done easily but the rest is kind of nonsense (or so I've heard).

Hi Carlo,

Cheers, I'm going to try agian tonight friday, I'm just wondering if fsrecorder could record it all without filing HD up.
May the Mynd be with you.

FSrecorder should be able to do record it. Don't worry about HD space, it's only data it'll record. Unless you would use something like FRAPS which actually records video...
