Uninstall FS9

Postby Frozen1 » Sat Oct 24, 2009 7:28 am

Is there a way to totally uninstall fs9?? I uninstalled it and checked the box to remove all settings, but when I reinstall all the add-on stuff is still there with the same error.(scenery.cfg file error). I tried using a fs9 with a different cd key but no luck...

I'm not sure if this will be any help, but i recently removed FS9 from my laptop. Using the uninstall method did not remove it completely, and in the end i had to go and remove folders my self.

I imagine that some of the extra stuff you have downloaded is still hanging about, and you will need to go delete it manually.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly  ;D

The uninstall routine only removes what was installed from the disks - it leaves behind a number of files and folders which were created when you ran the "game".

You need to carefully search your HD and remove all traces of FS2004 before attempting a re-install.

That would include deleting the Flight Simulator 9 folder (and anything in it), the FS9 folder and anything in it (normally found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9) and the folder named Flight Simulator Files (under My Documents) which has any flights you saved.

Remember to look for hidden files and folders when cleaning up after the un-install.

Hope that helps.

When you insert the Installer CD (FS9/FSX) to uninstall the program, don't you have the option available of just removing the game only, ...or removing completely, the game, plus all the extra add-ons, etc?... ::)...!

I generally find it more efficient to uninstall programs with the original Installer program, rather than Add-/Remove in the Windows control panel...they seem to be designed to remove everything when required, including entries in the Registry!

The Installer program (Disk 1), also contains the official uninstaller program.

I think the Windows Add/Remove Programs option uses the software's uninstaller anyway Paul. If you look in your FS9 root directory folder you should see an icon named uninstal.exe. This is the FS9 uninstall application which should work whether or not you have the disk in the drive.

As Opa pointed out, this will usually remove what it originally installed - leaving your addons intact. It will also leave any files outside the FS root directory like fs9.cfg. For a full uninstall these will need removing manually after you've run the uninstall software.

I haven't tried the little tool that jrocky recommended but it might well do the trick.
