fs2004 - vista ?

Yes it does.

It is highly recommend that it NOT be installed in the default "Program files" location as Vista apparently adds an extra layer of "protection" to that location which is often very annoyng (to put it mildly).

Install it to a location such as C:\Games or some other location of your choice. You will be glad you did.

I understand that you should also run the installation and the program itself as "adminstrator".

Personally I just used C:\FS9

So much easier to find everything.

More power to you gentlemen - but the forums on other sites have many posts indicating that one should not install FS in the default "program files" folder.

The advice comes from simmers who have far more experience than I.

I don't know how different Vista and FS 2004 is from Win XP and FS 2004....

..but I find that using Win XP, if I don't install Programs to the "Program Files" Folder, they don't appear when one wishes to uninstall or remove them safely, using "Add-Remove" in the "Settings > Control Panel" option.

"Add/Remove" only points to the Program Files Folder.

Hmm I don't think so. I have some programs installed elsewhere and they appear in the list.
Also, my FSX is installed on another Hardrive (drive E) and the SP1 and SP2 appear in the list.
Same goes for some of the addon aircrafts that have auto-installers.
The uninstall list correspond to an entry in the registry that can point to any folder on any disk.

I believe that the above statements are not valid if the user is actually the administrator of the computer.

I have had problems with FS2004 on Vista, textures where very dark on aeroplanes and on some add on scenery, I found a way of getting around this problem, but it became tiresom, I have now given up with FS2004 in vista, FSX works very well, I have a trial version of Windows 7 on another PC and I find FS2004 works very well, except that some add ons don't work at all or not too well, I am not complaining I reckon manufactures do what they can to make thier software work as well as they can, everyone's PC is is different as is the PC skills of the user, the fact that anything works at all with the different operating systems that Microsoft have bought out along with the Service packs that always seem to follow astounds me. I have great hopes of Windows 7, maybe and old guy like me can eventually get my head round it.

I have FS9 in (c)/Program Files (86)/MS Games in Vista 64 & on the whole it seems to work alright but a few odd things happen that never did with XP..........Good old Windoze
