Still crashing......

Postby stevehookem » Sat Aug 15, 2009 10:56 am

It's ridiculous! We've tried disabling items, removing and reinstalling, fixing the scenery files, everything short of completely wiping it clean again. I really don't want to do that!

As I fly, everything works perfectly! But when I get on approach to an airport (and I've tried many different ones) FS9 goes black. It's like it knows I've just flown from Miami or San Francisco or wherever and decides that I've had enough fun. Quit.

What would cause this to happen? I'm flying from different areas, different distances and times but the crash still happens just as I get close to landing.

Very frustrating.

Steve, does it happen even on completely default airports with no AES?

Steve, this is just a stab in the dark as I don't know what your graphic card setup is.

Three years ago, I upgraded to a high-end PC with dual CPU's and dual graphic cards. I thought it would be flawless out of the box, but it crashed FS often for no obvious reason.

After trying, testing and tweaking most everything, I disabled the SLI feature for the dual nVidia cards. That was IT; no more crashes ever again!

Hope this helps.

Regards,

I am running one GTX 285. Is SLI "on" somehow by default? Since I only have one card, how would I disable this?

SLI works only with two cards. Sorry to get your hopes up.

Good luck,

Actually, I do have TWO cards installed, a GTX285 that runs my projector only and a 9400GT that drives the two smaller monitors that I want to use for overhead and FMC.

FS9 will also crash EVERY TIME I drag the FMC over to the smaller monitor. This never happened in FSX.

I just went to device manager and I need some help: I have 4 "Default Monitor" listings and 2 "Plug and Play" listings. My cards each have only two plugs and I only have 3 monitors attached.

Why do I have 6 devices? How do I tell which ones to disable? I would like to get rid of anything I don't need.

Woo Hoo--a complete flight from KORD to KSAN. Both add-on airports, both with AES in an add-on Captain Sim 757.

Had a little issue with traffic appearing out of nowhere on approach but the FMC kept me away from him until I flew over. He had to go around.  A lot of "Traffic Traffic" yelling at me!!

I think one of the problems is letting AES "fix" the position in the scenery library. I manually moved AES to the highest priority. When it auto-fixed, it still was showing below some airports and the layers were not correct.

Exactly the opposite of what I told you.... LOL. Sorry, Steve.

I hope you and your son can keep on flying like this without problems. Let us know, please!

No problem. I thought it would be correct too. It was just an afterthought to even check. It wasn't in the correct place at all after AES "fixed" it.

Before the flight we moved KORD and KSAN to the highest priority just below AES. Today he is flying from Budapest to Brussels. I'll let you know how that flight goes.

Now if I can get the monitors to let me drag the FMC over without crashing we'd be set.....

Yes please let us know Steve!

If you don't have to drag the FMC, please don't! ;)
