Can't complete a flight. FS9 crashes....

I switched to FS9 from FSX because most of the sim pit builders use it and swear by it. We really like all the scenery available and the add-on airports make it fun to fly almost anywhere in the world. When we

...if that happened to me I would tend to suspect that my Central Processor was overheating and shutting the system down... ::)....!

I would check the CPU temperature?

one question that I always ask is, "What are the last 5 things that you downloaded BEFORE you started noticing the problems??"  There might be something that you downloaded that is causing it to hang up, then crash.

also, what do you have running in the background? Anti-virus? Internet explorer? Windows Media Player? anything else???

Hmmm for a dedicated machine for home cockpit, WHY YOU NEED A BLUE RAY BURNER???(joking)
Another thing i also had once XP 64, and it crashed sometimes, start to think getting back to the 32.Apply Nick's tweaks to accept more than 2gb of memory.
Try to delete your fs.cfg and run your fs again.KATL to KJFK takes about 1h and half (so so) if he was doing in real time , hhmmmm if it was some kind of temperature, i guess it could happen earlier.Just in case see if all fans are working (CPU, GPU).
Have you instaled SP1 for Fs?When your fs crashes does it go back to desktop or the monitors get in stby mode?
Keep us posted :-?

This Antec case has fans all over it! It sounds like a jet engine itself. I can see the fans running. This doesn't seem to be a hardware issue.

I made the FS9.exe file >2gb aware. Without it, I was getting OOM errors on long hauls. I also think that a few add-on airports have memory leaks. However, JFK and ATL have never raised this concern.

It was real time. He's about to fly from JFK to ATL now. I'll post how that goes.

This seems to be something to do with moving the FMC/GPS/Overhead panel to the other monitors. He just called to me that it crashed again when he was dragging the overhead panel to the other monitor.

What would cause that?

Just because there are system fans running that doesnt mean that the processor and GPU fans are working.Who built that? IF it was you did you spread the termal paste correctly on the processor? But i also dont think its a hardware thing.

What plane are you using?
PMDG, Level D, wilco Airbus, Aerosoft 757?

I built it. The fans are running. I can see the GTX fan and the processor fan. This system has been thoroughly tested in Prime95, MemTest, OCCT, etc. The temps are never hot. It is one of the coolest systems I've had.

He flies the Captain Sim 757 (this is what has crashed today), the PMDG 737, the Level-D 767, Wilco E-Jets, and the defaults. I can't narrow this down to any one plane.

He started the flight from JFK. Before reaching cruising altitude FS9 disappeared and the desktop was there. A very quick error message related to FDC Live Cockpit this time (has never happened before). It read: FDC Live Cockpit Overflow Error (or Excess Data, he can't remember exactly it was so fast). Again, no full flight.

Before this flight FS9 crashed two times on the ground as I was having him test dragging the FMC to the other monitor. It would seem to crash each time he dragged slowly but not if he moved it fast across to the other monitor. Does that mean anything?

Thanks for the help! I hope we can get this working!

Just for the sake of trouble shooting...

Can a flight be completed if the FMC is not dragged anywhere?

It's starting to sound like the problem lies with either the FMC program, or something in the monitor's drivers perhaps?

Could it be that one of your programs or pieces of hardware is missing or needing, or requires a 64 bit driver?

It may be just info overload for the graphics, as you're running so many things in the GPU loop, that when you drag the FMC, it just freaks out and quits.

You are running a setup that most of us only dream about, and since 90% of us aren't running any of the software/hardware that you are, it's going to be VERY difficult to figure this out unless someone like JBarymore comes along and sees this.
It sucks that you're having all these problems with FSX & FS9, and that it's so difficult to figure out, but the only other person who has a simpit and posts regularly on it is JBarymore, and he's on vacation for a little while longer.

Keep the faith, once this is all figured out, I know it will be worth it for you and your son.

As Shane pointed out ... this does not sound like any hardware crash (although video drivers could be a possibility)

Thanks guys. I am using 182.5 which has always been stable for video.

What about the "excess data" or "data overflow" message he saw when FDC Live Cockpit quit? What could that be?

Is there a dedicated FMC program that can be run on my other computer via FSUIPC with every plane (even deafults?) so he can get it away from the FS9 computer? I would love to have the FMC run on the network instead.

you have a lot of items in play

Eliminate the addons Steve and fly without them.. if no problems come up, enable them one by one till you come across the culprit. When it shows then go to the website for the product in use and request assistance for the issue

There are programs like WIDEFS made by Pete at FSUIPC that allows another system to act as a network slave to the sim.. I dont use the software.. your question would be better answered in the pit forum than here

Is there a chance that I am having a chipset driver issue for my P6T Deluxe motherboard?

You know I wiped my drive clean, reinstalled windows, followed your guide for optimization and then put FS9 on. I don't remember ever doing anything with my motherboard drivers! I'm not getting any errors but I thought if I wiped the HD, then I would HAVE to put something back for the MB, right? hmmm

I went to the ASUS site and I am confused about which driver to use. They have items showing up called "Marvell" that I think I don't need. What is the link to the actual "MB chipset driver" and is it OK to run it now?

They are on your Asus CD

Use those instead. In the Asus install utility GUI its the 2nd option as I recall, Intel Chipset Drivers
