Landing problems

Postby Jason21516 » Mon Jul 06, 2009 3:13 pm

I need help with setting up long flights in the game. I can't figure out how to make it where I have to be givin permission to land, When I open up the little window to contact the tower all it does is say your position and then I get nothing back from the tower. Is there some setting to switch this.

It sounds as if you are wanting to land at smaller "uncontrolled" airports - which have no tower. In that case you just state your intentions etc. and you will not get a response.

Try landing at a larger metroplitan airport and ATC should talk to you.

Well i dont want to play the smart guy, but i think you are doing something wrong.
What kind of flight are you doing, IFR , VFR, are you using a flight plan?
If not you are flying into control tower airports or simple airports?
When you contact an airport with control tower what he tells you, is which runway and kind of landing pattern in use.Lets supose you are coming from the west and the airport is using rwy 27 left pattern, if you come from the right he will only clear you to land when you are 45 deg. letf or right fom the end rwy. So you need to know where you are. If you are using a regular airport , maybe not the case, bcoz you say they cleared you to land, you need to report your position. IN a IFR flight plan they will vector you to the rwy even if you are using ILS.
I hope it helped i never saw ATC mess up like that.Try to use the map to see where you are, and your heading indicator to see position of the runway
Cheers
;)

I do us the flight plan for all my flights, but I think you were right about the small airports, because I use those a lot. Also to make the game seem more "real", is there a good program to make it where you have to us your mic to call in for takeoff and landing, like a voice over program.

There really isn't a way for you to vocalize the ATC calls, since FS doesn't have voice recognition software.

It's nearly impossible, but I suppose if you could find software that CAN recognize voice (pretty expensive) then you could program it to perform certain key presses in the game.

Have a read through this thread http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1239896468 and the links it has, it does more than just voice recognition of ATC, howevers thats the part that I found intriguing.
