Aircraft Climbs

Postby ivormills » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:47 am

After take off my aircraft takes on a pitch up attitude until eventually it stalls. Adjusting trim makes no difference as trim constantly goes back. This happens even if the autopilot is set and on all aircraft, any ideas?

Disconnect your Autopilot, trim the Aircraft for slight nose up, and continue the climb MANUALLY until you reach Cruise height....
...then, after selecting your desired Altitude and Heading, enable the Autopilot.

Always Re-trim the Aircraft after switching off the Autopilot. (When you land, the Trim Wheel may be in the wrong position for the next take-off!...take a peek at the Trim Wheel Indicator before take off!...;)...!

Operating the Elevator Trim Wheel is as important as using your Yoke/Joystick..

...(Pilots often fly with one hand on the Trim Wheel during manual flight)..;)...!

Excellent, Ivor...

..always check the position of your Trim Wheel, every time, before take off...

...its nearly always in the wrong position!... ;D... ;D...!

Paul... ;)...!

For take-off, trim the nose very slightly high...;)...!

After Landing Checklist:

-flaps up
-cowl flaps open
-transponder to stand-by
-landing lights off
-TRIM FOR TAKEOFF

:D

-TRIM FOR TAKEOFF

Shouldn't that be "neutral trim"?

Maybe the autopilot VSI is set too high.

On my GA Piston Props I generally trim the nose slightly high, before take-off*, (rather than "Neutral")...

I find that the aircraft will then (almost) lift itself off the runway automatically when sufficient air speed has been reached... :)...!

Relieves the back pressure on the Yoke/Joystick necessary to un-stick the wheels!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

* ..and also before landing, to slow the Aircraft down, (especially after cancelling the Autopilot)!
