Golden Hawaii scenery

Postby patchz » Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:59 am

This scenery is by Lynn and Bill Lyons. It takes you back to pre-WWII. It uses a switch to turn it on and off so you can fly current day. But the switch is not working. It uses an auto installer and there is no uninstall. And it does not install to Addon scenery so I can't disable it. Nor can I find it to delete it. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

I'm downloading the file now to check it out.

Meanwhile you could try installing it again. This time point the install path to a Temp folder anywhere convenient. You can then find out which files it installs where. If an auto-installer won't let me do this I refuse to use it.

Hi patchz. I tried it & all appears to work as advertised. I followed the instructions to create a shortcut to the switch & paste it to my desktop. You have to exit FS9 before using it.

I extracted the files to a Temp folder to check it out before installing it as I suggested earlier. I can see no reason not to use the auto-installer direct to your FS9 root directory. It does not overwrite any default files & will cause no harm. Not sure why it's not working for you.

PS. Here's the switch in both positions.

Yipeeee! Back to normal. I reinstalled it to a temp folder and then removed everything, except the aircraft. I kinda wanted to keep them. I'll upload some pics later.
I think I figured out the problem. In the Scenery/World folder it had MSScenery, MSTexture, Scenery, and Texture. The last two were GH files. I think the switch is supposed to change the names of these folders back and forth, and for some reason it failed. I think I reinstall the whole thing and not use the switch, just manually rename the folders for what era I want at the time. It's a little trouble but not much slower than using the switch. Thanks for the help.
Now if I could just get my F-14D and the default Baron 58 back working....Ah one thing at a time. I'll explain/ask for help on this later. Out of time for now.

Thanks. I had copied the switch to the desktop, it just did not work properly for some reason. It showed the change, but when I opened FS again, it had not changed. Thus the cry for help. Maybe I just got a bad switch and need to go to the parts house for a replacement. ;D Anyway, all fixed now.
See my previous post.

Did you mean a copy of the switch file or a shortcut to it? That might be the cause of your problem.

PS. Just tried it & suspect that explains it. Create a shortcut to golden_hawaii.exe in its original location & paste that to your desktop. Then it will work. I guarantee it.

The point is that golden_hawaii.exe (or a copy of it) will run from the desktop but will have no effect unless it's in the correct location. Leave it where it is & run it from there or create a shortcut to the file & paste that to your desktop.

Over here, http://www.goldenwings.info/

You can find files to turn the whole US to pre-WWII

Also there are instructions on making a second FS9 install so you can just start the sim you wish to use at the moment

Pretty neat

[color=#000000]I meant shortcut, but with my feeble mind, anything is possible.

[glow=yellow,2,300]Oh, if I just had the drive space, memory, and processing power to have two installs[/glow]

It's actually a 'mini' install, you remove a LOT of stock FS stuff,

try it, you can always delete it.

You can make it as MINI as you want/need to.

All you need is drive space, you are not using memory, or processor on install A, if you are running install B  :D

All the links to the files appear to be dead. I suspect they're hosted at Avsim like a lot of other developers.
