Backing up the 4th Disc?

Postby Stewy44 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:19 pm

G'day guys,

Just a quick question - I'm going nuts adjusting the traffic for loads of countries, downloading AI aircraft and printing AIPs!  Hours and hours of work!

The thought just hit me though - what if my 4th disc scratches and FS2K4 becomes useless?  Does MS allow a backup to be made?  Should I buy another copy of FS2K4 while I still can?

Thanks guys
Stew

I have a copy of FS, but I keep it safely inside both it's original box, and the sleeves it came in.  I downloaded the No CD crack for FS9, and use that instead of keeping the disk out where it can get damaged.

If I were you, I would do the same!

Although, a search of both this site and Flightsim.com has revealed that it isn't attainable at either one.  I'm fairly sure I got a copy from AVSim.  Unfortunately, it's still down. :(

Yes, guys, I wasn't keen on doing anything illegal/pirating...

Was wondering if there was a legit way to do it...

I'll see if FS2K4 can still be bought in Aus ;)

SimV does not advocate piracy of any kind. What you are talking about is considered piracy. Getting the "No CD Patch" is illegal.

::)

If you purchased a copy legally, and use the file for protection of your investment, its not piracy.

A little common sense tells us that.

Sorry guys - I didn't want to start an argument over the legality/illegality of things...just wanted to keep flying the friendly skies for as long as possible!

I found a copy for AUD$50 - so will keep that as my 'backup' copy! ;)

Cheers

In Microsoft's eyes, you are damaging THEIR creation, and not running it the way THEY intended it to run.

as to a backup copy, you might want to contact MICROSOFT (though i doubt you will get anyone with the round of layoffs they had) and ask them what you or they could do about getting you an extra 4th disk at a discounted rate.

can you not burn your own copy?

you can COPY disks 1-3, but Disk 4 (the one you NEED to run the simulator) is Copy Protected from Microsoft.
