Trouble banking...

Postby Alexander M Zoltai » Fri May 15, 2009 10:40 pm

The only plane (original and addon) that banks {I rekeyed banking to the U and O keys} is the Cessna Grand Caravan...

I would love to fly others and all of them do everything but bank...

What are the proper commands in aircraft.cfg to correct a plane that won't bank??
I fly a Rockwell AC-500...

..are you not using a "Twist" Joystick, or Yoke with Rudder Pedals?....

...only the Keyboard?.... :o...?

To bank the Aircraft you need to apply BOTH the Ailerons and Rudder!

(Otherwise you are just "Slewing" the aircraft, causing it to slip!)

Very difficult just using the Keyboard!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004....and a Twisty-Joystick!... 8-)....!

Make sure the Wing Leveler isn't switched on.

Hello
The proper command is....the go out and buy a joystick command.
Make sure it has a twistgrip and a hatswitch.
Your joy will be unbounded.

I am only using the keyboard...

I don't have slew-mode turned on...

My Caravan is definitely banking whether I'm in the cockpit, VC, or Chase View...

Thanks for the opinion but I'm very unboundedly joyful about the way the keyboard controls my Grand Caravan. So, why is it behaving and the other planes not??

Did you miss my reply? I think that is the most likely explanation.

I agree with the others that a joystick with a separate rudder control is far more satisfactory than using the keyboard. In the meantime you could try enabling the Auto-rudder feature from Aircraft Realism settings.

I wonder why everyone so far has missed the point that the Grand Caravan is working wonderfully...

What would permit it to work but none of the others?

The Grand Caravan doesn't have a Wing Leveler. Some aircraft have a Yaw Damper which could also affect it. Y/D switch.

The Grand Caravan doesn't have a Wing Leveler. This is sometime called the Yaw Damper. Y/D switch.

Ah... So! Have to go try turning off the Wing-leveler when I want to bank all the other planes.

Hope this is the fix I was seeking.............. ;)

I don't use the A/P so I just tried this to refresh my memory. The default key commands are

Yaw Damper on/off Ctrl + D
Wing Leveller on/off Ctrl + V

One or both of these should fix it.

and you could have figured this out 8 posts ago when Hagar told you about the LVL switch.

Granted you have already expressed your perfectly content using just the keyboard, but if you went to a local computer store and got at least the Saitek ST290 Pro joystick that has a "twist" feature ($20 at Walmart), Then you will really see your sim come alive!!!!! It will no longer be "just a game" it will start to transform more into a SIMULATOR which is what it is supposed to be.

Do real Airline pilots learn how to fly A380-800's using a keyboard??? NO!!! they learn in a SIMULATOR that has up to 8 monitors, yoke, rudder pedals, numerous hydrolic actuators, MILES of computer cables....... if you want to feel that you are flying the real thing, then why not try to get as close to it as you can at your house????? Why settle for just the keyboard?????

For some people, that extra $20 on a totally discretionary purchase is a lot of money.

Please excuse me for being so stupid...

It's just wonderful that you want to pretend to be a "real" pilot" in your home. Beyond the fact that I don't have an extra 20 for a joystick, I won't let your heavy-handed opinion influence my desire to have my planes bank, even if I was so stupid as to not understand Hagar's tip eight whole posts ago......... :o
