Tailhook is not responding...

Postby Capt.Propwash » Fri May 01, 2009 2:17 pm

in FS2004 OR FSX.  I have no clue why it is not responding, as it is listed in my KEY ASSIGNMENTS as being SHIFT+T.   I do not even see the green bar at the top of the screen saying TAILHOOK EXTENDING / RETRACTING.   nothing moves.

I do have the TAILHOOK button in the cockpit with a greenlight beside it, but THAT will not even make the tailhook go up or down.

I have tried to lower / raise it with no flaps going 300 KIAS (and above) all the way down to just sitting on the runway stationary and nothing makes it work.

any ideas would be helpfull.

Thanks

Are you sure the model in question has a working hook?

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Hmmm? I just downloaded a Grumman Hellcat and a Grumman Wildcat to test out your problem. I didnt have the Tailhook function assigned, so I did that first. When I tested it out I got both the bar messages (Tailhook extending and Tailhook extracting) for both aircraft and visuals of both hooks. Could be that, as Ozzy suggested, you are using a model not programmed with a tailhook, or the function isnt assigned properly in the list of Assignments. What aircraft are you using?:)

One more possibility:- Go into the aircraft.cfg files and ensure there is a TailHook spec similar to the following -

[TailHook]
tailhook_length=4                        ;(feet)
tailhook_position = -23.6, 0.0, -1.0            ;(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
cable_force_adjust = 1.0

I suspect the reference to lights 9 & 10 is confusing the issue. If you backed up the original entries, go there and check to see if the original [TailHook] entry read:

[TailHook]
tailhook_length=6.7

from the original F14Dfinal412.zip .... F14D Tomcat Aircraft.cfg:::

[LIGHTS]
// feet: longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
