What do you do the most in FS9?

Agree Fozzy, WRT the low flying. I rarely take anything up into the flight levels, and if I do, it is usually just testing an aircraft. Most of my highest flights are 14,500' or lower. Turboprops to a nearby city. I almost never dial up any of the airliners.

I spend a lot of time in the 172 and a lot of time looking for interesting singles off the lists and lists of aircraft available. Oh, I occasionally will to a 'fling' with some guys on another forum, like fly down the Colorado river, or up the Norwegion coastline. Then we have discussions of our experiences. That's pretty cool and VERY relaxing. I'll end up flying areas I wouldn't otherwise.

I mainly fly short hops, ranging from 30min flights up to 2 hour flights in Piper Cub's, Tiger Moth's and any of the Cessna light aircraft.

Now and again when i can I fly on-line with Fozzer and co when I have the time too.

On the odd occasions i can be found rehearsing air show routines in aircraft ranging from the Piper Cub - Extra 300 and Spitfire.

Try entering the stall with power off.
so cut the power, gently raise the nose to bleed of the speed, when she's fully stalled then give it full rudder in either direction, hold the column/stick back and level while holding the fully deflected rudder, it will kind of wing over then it will settle into a fully developed spin with the airspeed hovering around a normal stall speed.........wait for it, and then recover with full opposite rudder, full throttle, and lower the nose to break the stall  8-)

I mostly do flights with my virtual airline, Livewire Airlines.  It's great, you can do short hops in small planes, like Beavers, 1900's, Dash-8's, or long hauls in heavy metal, 747, 777, A340, etc.  The models they provide for you to download are fairly decent, and on some flights, I'll use a payware version of the aircraft if I have it.  The other day I did a VFR flight in a DHC-2 from Vancouver Intl. Seaplane, to Port Alberni Seaplane, in bad weather.  The next day I did Sydney-Los Angeles in a 747.  Fun stuff.  When I get bored with that, I'll fly around in my IRIS F-15 or something like that.  :)

Hi everyone,

I am definitely enjoying this game. I downloaded and installed the aircanada dash 8 and EMB190 and loving it. Just wondering though, what do you all do the most in FS? Do you fly long distances and save during flight after a few hours or what? I find the main fun is in takeoffs and landings but in between is kind of dull, I flew Bathurst to Montreal last night with the dash 8 just like the real flight and it actually took almost as long as the real thing, about 1.5 hours to fly it...

Anyway just checking to see if there are other things that we can do as well, maybe increase the distance travelled to like 2x the real thing or something.

Domestic and short international hops in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and South-East Asia.  Mainly 737s but the 747 is great fun too!

Most of the time I fly short hops (up to 100 nm). Any longer and I get bored. I always fly real world weather in one of my single or twin prop GA's.

You could also give helicopter flying a try. I'm slowly getting it. I only crash 9 out of 10 times now...

If ya get bored go to http://www.bobholland.com/fs/default.htmand check out the tool you put in your knee board. Put your cursor over downloads and a tree of links line up underneath. Then click on tools and utilities. There you will find the "FigBoard". Real easy to install. Bunch of stuff to play with while in flight and on the web also. If you wanting to do something other than just flying, Bobs site
can set you up with all kinds of kool stuff to add on. Real easy to
understand also. There are other tools in the Simviation "misc downloads" that can put you on line also while you are flying and even music player in the aircraft as you fly. Still bored? He makes it really easy for everybody.

IM strange. I will do random flight with my dice. so ok.. so I role a d 6 to see if I will be using scenery I downloaded or paywayr. so 4 to 6 will be a scenery that i have 1 to 3 random city from any where in the world. . turn on the tv and flip thrue channels.  the frist city or country mentiond is the one. so thats how i pick my dept city and dest city. then every hour I role a random plane,. keeps things interestin and different everytime.

so for my 4 to 6 roles. I have my list 01 to 81 I have now so like the old D&D days got my D 10 and role for the number so say I role a 3 firts then a 9 that will be city # 39 on my list.. I knw weird but hey I like it.

Low flying through mountain ranges is what I do for the most fun. Try following some of the rivers or roads that go through them, way down low; it can be quite challenging. I basically like to try things I wouldn't do in a real airplane because of the danger.

Another thing I like to do is fly stories from some of my favorite aviation movies and books. For example, one of my saved flights is the route to bomb the dams from the movie "Dambusters" in a freeware Avro Lancaster--more low flying, and at night. Have to do some geographical and calendar research for many of my flights but it's all part of the challenge.

When I was flying cargo "real world" a few years back I used FS9 to try approaches prior to flying newly assigned routes. It really did help to familiarize myself with the approaches much more than just sitting down and reading the approach plates. Even the taxiway layouts were useful in some cases.

I've become a bit of a round-world addict these days - preferably in fairly short-ranged aeroplanes, which call for careful route planning and navigation, and a lot of fuel economy technique. The 'record' was managing it in a Hawker Hurricane which only has a nominal range of 550 miles!

Another thing that's worth trying for a change are some of the 'hard' pre-planned flights listed in the 'select a flight' panel. 'European Airline Pilot' has you flying a 737 from London to Malta and back via Paris, Milan, Venice, and Palermo. 'Aerial Chauffeur' has you bus-stopping a Cessna all over New England in weather that starts off dicey and deteriorates from there! My personal favourite is 'Reeve Aleutian Airlines,' taking the DC3 Dakota from Anchorage all the way along the Aleutian Chain - some of the worst weather imaginable, and lots of difficult landings. The Frontier Airlines one also features the DC3 - this scenario is not as interesting as the Aleutian one, but the third leg (Canon City to Salt Lake City) is well worth trying - if only because it has you flying through the mountain passes instead of over them!
