What do you do the most in FS9?

Hi everyone,

I am definitely enjoying this game. I downloaded and installed the aircanada dash 8 and EMB190 and loving it. Just wondering though, what do you all do the most in FS? Do you fly long distances and save during flight after a few hours or what? I find the main fun is in takeoffs and landings but in between is kind of dull, I flew Bathurst to Montreal last night with the dash 8 just like the real flight and it actually took almost as long as the real thing, about 1.5 hours to fly it...

Anyway just checking to see if there are other things that we can do as well, maybe increase the distance travelled to like 2x the real thing or something.

I typically fly "city pairs" in my regional jet (BAe146-200).

If you prefer the big iron, it's a little unrealistic to just do takeoffs and landings and the enroute part does get boring.

I do a ton of different stuff.

Sometimes I do the long tube flights, then other times I like to bush fly in Alaska, or around Australia checking out all that VOZ1.8 has to offer, always finding new hidden things by those guys.

Then there are times when I just want to check out a new scenery I've gotten in a bit closer perspective, so I'll get into my beautiful Enzo Ferrari, or my Lexus and cruise the streets, or maybe jump in a chopper and bobble my way around the sky.

Then there's my absolute favorite, sailing in southern Alaska! Sailing or running my yacht through Chile's southern country is also a nice treat to the eyes.

 I've even had the pleasure of riding a horse, flying in a Lazy boy recliner, flying the Enterprise, dropping a VW Beetle from 99,999ft just to see what happens.

All kinds of great stuff to do in FS9, and I'm still discovering new stuff after all these years.

You can change the simulation rate if you wish. Options/Simulation Rate on the menu bar.

Like JBaymore said, if you actually "Fly" the plane it really makes it more interesting.  I like to challenge myself, using radio navigation and no GPS, and almost zero visibility down to 500 feet, and landing with ILS.  That's fun!  It's nice flying above the clouds but you cant see the ground, then when you start your approach, visibility goes away and your instruments are all you got, all the way up until you pick up an ILS, then it's white knuckle trying to keep it in the glide slope until you catch the first glimpse of runway lights in front of you, then do the frantic last second corrections lining up  ;D

I also like to take short little vfr bush hops in beautiful weather  8-)

I do circutes short hops multiplayer and some flights (mostly BUF-MCO). The longest flight I've done was SR121 ATL-ZRH 8 1/2 hrs.

here are a few of my suggestions...:

USING FS TO TRAIN FOR YOUR REAL WORLD LICENSE......
For "real world" practice, don't use the GPS or the Auto Pilot. Get a sectional for the area that you are training in and plot courses using the VOR's and the Nav instruments. This is exactly what you are required to do to get your license.

For a real experience, select "New Flight" and file an IFR flight plan with a small plane and fly it by hand at night with ATC. It doesn't get much more real than this and you will gain experience that can reduce your costly training time.

Check out the BARNSTORMING under "EASTER EGGS".   You start at 6J6 - Edgefield County Municiple airport in Trenton, South Carolina; Just 100 nm from my home of 50j - Moncks Corner, South Carolina.   Another large airport / AFB near me is the KCHS - Charleston International / Air Force Base.    (whoooo hooooo!!!!!!! my state made it into the simulators!!!  ;D  8-)  :P )

For me, over the past 10+ years of DAILY "flying" using the various flight simulators, from Flight Unlimited II (FU2!......), Pro Pilot 2, Fly, etc,, etc, through MS FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, and FSX, the delight has always been the ability to load up my favourite GA, Piiston-prop, Trainer/Tourer Aircraft, eg: Microlights, Cessna 150/152/172/182, Beech Baron twins, etc, and fly slowly, at low level, over the fantastic default/add-on landscape unfolding below me.

...and all these low level flights enable me to study, in detail, the Geography, Geology, Flora, (and the History, Population, etc, via Wikipedia), of the areas which I slowly cover at low altitude.

I have never had any interest whatsover in "Commercial Passenger Jet" aircraft, traversing the World at silly altitudes, where the scenery is no longer visible.

The visual, external
