Postby Lo0u » Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:10 pm

I was wondering if anybody. Might no of a way to start out with a cold cockpit on Fs9. The only way i see to do it. Is to save a flight for each plane i wanted to start with cold. Is there any other way then this to do it or a program or something. thanks in advanced!

Just save a flight with the default Cessna 172 in a cold and dark state, and make that saved flight your default flight.

Do as Sean states and any flight you create, regardless of aircraft, will start cold and dark.

It will have no effect any of your saved flights.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

I like to plan flights with multiple stops. That way, with every stop along the way I start cold and dark and have to start the engines, call pushback to leave to airport gate, arrange for refueling if necessary, and other flight planning duties. For example I like to fly a route from Brisbane to Perth with 8 stops in between.

LoOu, just taxi in and park (or start a flight from a parked location), then press  'Ctrl/Shift/ E' to shut the engine(s) down and 'L' to turn off the lights. The aircraft will go 'cold and dark.' Then save the flight.

To start up, Just press 'Ctrl/E' - but if you have more than one engine, hold the keys down until all engines are turning. 'L' will turn on the lights.

Of course you can 'do it the hard way' if you like - call up the kneeboard in the aeroplane you're flying - you'll get full start-up and shutdown procedure lists there.

Another thing that you may like to try - years back I found out how to get rid of the 'default flight,' which is just a waste of time. Trouble is, it was so long ago that I forget how! Nowadays, to close down, I just exit from the 'select flight' page by pressing 'Esc' - when I start up again, the game starts from that screen, 'no waiting.' :)

Sorry, I just can't remember how. Maybe I made another flight the 'default flight' and just cleared the tickmark the next time I shut down?

Try 'escaping' out from the 'save flights' page anyway - set to 'My Saved Flights.' Might work for you.

Another little tip, regarding shutting the engine down, using CTRL/Shift/F1 or pulling out the Mixture knob to weak-shut-off, (the correct methods)...

....if next time you load up a "simple" aircraft which doesn't have a "Mixture Control", and you find that the aircraft will not start using the "Start Key" (because it is still in the Weak Mixture position) press Ctrl/Shift/F4 to richen the mixture, then start the engine using the start key, (or press Shift/E).

...sometimes you wonder why the engine wont start and run when you load up a new aircraft in your Hangar...Its often because you closed the previous aircraft down with the Mixture Control... and then saved the flight.... :o....!
Check your Mixture before start-up.

Paul...often gets all mixed-up!... ;D...!

Just to clarify -

I always exit FS2004 by selecting the "Escape" option - rather than "End Flight".

When you "escape", your flight conditions (even in mid-air) are saved as the "Previous Flight".

So it is very easy to just create a shortcut to the "Previous Flight"
