Scenery upgrades/fixes

Postby olderndirt » Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:40 pm

Been downloading the three upgrades/fixes to the CYVR airport, from the Simviation scenery library and am wondering if these should be pasted, individually, into the original CYVR file I already have?

I can't find them. If you post links I'll check them out for you.

the complete Harry Potter file

That's a huge file. I'm downloading it now. Might take a while.

Hi! olderndirt.

Sounds like you've got the flying sorted out, which is the main thing.

Me - in many years of simming - I've learned to be very careful about scenery downloads. They tend to put scenery first, and 'framerates' - on which the fun of 'simming' largely depends - a long way second.

I LOVE landing at 'celebrated' airports - just took off from Honolulu on my way to San Francisco in my favourite DH88 Comet - but I learned a long time ago that the better the scenery, the harder the flying........

..True...true...true... ;)...!

In my FS 2004 I have a couple of bits of fantastic add-on scenery for one or two of my California Airfields, (Santa Barbara, and San Luis Co Regl for example), which drop my "Locked Frame Rates" from 20 FPS down to 9 FPS... :o...!

I just put up with it, until I am clear of the area again... ;)...!

...there is no doubt, the more complex the add-on scenery, the greater the Frame-Rate hit!... :o...!

In my own designed scenery, (for my own use), I make sure not to make it too complex, to avoid excessive Frame Rate hits.

Paul...G-BPLF...and a generally "Smooth" FS 2004... :-*

I've checked out the Harry Potter scenery. To make it easy to deactivate or remove I've installed it separately in a folder named HPotter with the usual Scenery & Texture sub-folders & pasted all the BGL files into the Scenery sub-folder. Once the HPotter folder is activated from the FS9 Scenery Library, BGL files can be added & removed at will. The scenery will be updated the next time you run FS9. Make sure you run AbacusEZLibraries.exe to install the EZ Library. This only needs doing once.

This is obviously fantasy scenery as apart from King's Cross station none of the locations actually exist. Most of the areas are listed on the Airport selection menu but it would help if the author had given some idea of where he placed them. I can't find Ottery Saint Catchpole.* If this is based on Ottery St. Mary it should be somewhere south of Dunkeswell (EGTU).

I found this list of places in the series which might help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Places_in_Harry_Potter

*PS. I found it listed under The Burrow (BURR)

Turns out I misread the CYVR big file - it already includes all the upgrades I was trying to implant.

Perhaps you need a special "spell" to get it to work? ;D
