Hit my Limit

Postby ShaneG_old » Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:49 pm

Today I discovered that there is a limit to the number of aircraft you can have in FS9. :( Not sure what the exact number is, but after installing about 20 new planes last night, I noticed that none of them had showed up in the sim, so I cleaned out a few of the ones I had tried and didn't like, and then the new ones appeared as they should.
Now I have new problem boggling my mind over this. My aircraft folder in the Config file location is now full of aircraft I no longer have installed, is it safe to delete the contents of this folder to let FS9 rebuild it, or must I take out only the ones I no longer have?
I guess 25GB of aircraft was just too much for the poor sim to handle. ;D
Thanks for any help.

I have over 350 types on FS9 and they all work well.

After 10+ years of daily Flight Simming, I have less than half a dozen downloaded Aircraft in my Hangar at any one time.

I only keep the aircraft which I use regularly, any more is just a waste of space....and makes it difficult to locate the few I really want to use!

I delete unwanted/unused aircraft, but ALWAYS keep their Gauges, Effects, etc, in case they are required elsewhere...;)..!

My Default Beech Baron 58 Twin tourer, and my downloaded Cessna 150 Aerobat run-about, satisfies most, if not all, of my daily needs...

....and my little Flexwing Trike fun machine!... :-*...!

If it serves my immediate purpose, I keep it. Otherwise it is deleted!

Any more is superfluous to requirements... ;)... ;)... :)...!

F....G-BPLF... 8-)...!

..as much of my time is spent on on-line FS 2004 flights, the use of MS default aircraft only is obvious!..;)...!

The online play is the main reason for adding in so many new ones lately. It seemed as though I never had the plane that someone else was using. :D
Downsizing has become top priority now. I've gotten rid of quite a few now, around 100 or so that I just never got into all that much. I definately keep the gauges and effects for obvious reasons. I guess I could just make alternate aircraft folders for various situations. Multiplayer be darned. ;D
I'm down to 650 aircraft in the folder, but that includes all of my AI planes as well. So I figure before the clean up I had around 800 or so. :o Sure opened up some free space!

BTW Fozz, where can I find this TC baron? I found a nice replacement panel by Brett Henderson in the FS2004 panel section, and it said it was compatible for both. Or is this the very mod you have refered to?

Hello Shane...

The "Helloware" Beech Baron 58 TC (Turbocharged)...>>>>

http://www.fsdome.com/showpage.php?url= ... est_91.htm

I replaced the default Beech Baron 58 .air file with the Helloware .air file, for extra speed and power....

...so that the DEFAULT Baron shows up in the on-line flights...;)...!

F...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

The Helloware TC Baron will only show up if EVERYONE else has it in their Hangar.!

P.S. I used to have two Wives...(That was my limit)...
...both of them totally unnecessary...;)...trust me... :)...!
..(On special offer at the moment)... :-*...!

Hey Fozz. Can I get a step-by-step on this? I keep trying to do this but I get an "inititialization error" for the Baron 58, and when it starts up it shows as a C172.

..its probably just me..

..but the thing I like about about the MS default "2D" panels is the ability to be able to "resize" them..ie..drag them down, and drag down the outuside view, to increase the forward visibility during flight.

I rarely fly using the VC ( Virtual Cockpit) view...naughty me?... ;D...!

...the Radio Stack is just a "pop-up" view for inserting data frequencies, etc,, then..

Hello sub...

I save the default Baron .air file first...

Then modify the Baron .air file by replacing EVERYTHING from "General" downwards from the TC .air file.

This ensures thet the "Default Baron" Grey and White, still appears in the drop-down list....but the flight charactistics ot the TC version are included...;)...!

F....with a very slippery default Baron.. JOY!... 8-)...!

I love the "Heloware TC" version of the Beech Baron 58..

...but, as we regular on-line flight simmers know, it cannot be seen by other flight simmers who do not have it in their Hangar at the time..... ;)...!

The mystification of on-line FS 2004 Flight Simming... ;D...!

I have opened the air file but don't see a general section anywhere. :-?
Are you meaning the aircraft.cfg? Just wanting to be sure before I butcher this puppy. ;D

Hi Shane,

Sorry to jump into a discussion that already seems to have passed the point of the size of the aircraft directory, but ...

How many aircraft did you have in there? I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my aircraft hanger.
I now have 832 models in there (totaling 21 GB) and those are mainly AI aircraft.
I've only added a few fly-able aircraft that I like, but I plan to add (many) more ...

Do you know where the limit is?

I had assumed it would be 800, but I started deleting aircraft out before I counted, so if you're already over the 800 mark, then I would say 900 or 1000. :o Do you notice any aircraft that were recently installed not showing up? I had not done so for a while, and then last night I installed all of the Kirk Olsen viper models, some migs and sukhois, and a B-2 and none of them appeared. So just for the sake of trial and error, I moved a couple of older aircraft out of the folder and one for one, the new planes started appearing. :-/

I'm wanting to try to move my AI aircraft out of this folder, and into their own folder like I did in FSX to open up some room and see if that helps. But I've not heard of it being done in FS9, so I hope it works.

I never thought about the downside to grabbing all those PAI and WAIW packs. ;D I just felt proud to have them all, even though I never see them all at once. And then of course there is all the Russian AI, the NL2K AI, the Columbian River Gorge AI, and unfortunately this list could go on forever.... Jeez I got a lot of AI planes! ;D ;D

Hello Shane..

Each Aircraft .air file has its own entry :

[General]
....insert the TC .air file from there downward in the Default .air file .

That will keep the entry in the drop-down Default Baron the same.

F...far too many glasses of Californian Red Vino for my own good..... ::)...!
