Panel Problem: AP Alt, Hdg, Ias increases by tens

Postby flipside » Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:22 pm

I downloaded and installed the Citation Panel from Simviation and whenever I try to set the Altitude, Heading, or Airspeed the numbers increase or decrease by tens or hundreds. For example, if I want to set an Altitude of 15,000, the first couple of clicks will turn the hundreds. The next click will change the thousands . The result is 15,200 and I cannot drop the 200. Is there anyway to fix this? If I want a heading of 083, I can't get it. The clicks result in changes of 10. The closest I can get is 080. After a couple hundred miles that makes quite a difference. This is extremely frustrating and I would welcom any advice on hoe to remedy this irritating anomaly.

One of those things that makes you go Hmmmmm....

Maybe the panel is written such that you can only do tenths and tens. Sounds crazy, but that's my only guess. Is there a way to set increments in the config files anywhere?
My system: AMD Phenom 9500 cpu, 2 x eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked vidcards (640Mb DDR3 each), Zalman "sunflower" 9700 fan, Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo, 4Gb G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 2 x Sony 20X DVD writers, Thermaltake Toughpower 8

I had this similar problem with an A-380. Instead of clicking, try using the mouse wheel to scroll the numbers up or down. I discovered this on accident and was quite tickled when I did. ;) Now I use my mouse wheel for all knob style gauge adjustments.
Hope this works for you. :)

You know when you're chaning heading for example, and holding down the mouse button initially increases the value in single units, and then it increases more rapidly as FS9 recognises that you're trying to make the selection more quickly? While this was initially a good M$ idea, more complex panels and gauges can unfortunately be written in such a way that they are constantly making calls on FS9 in the same way without your input. This results in the program being overloaded with gauge commands, resulting in the effect you describe.

There is a simple way of fixing it - but it'll cost you. The payware version of FSUIPC has a checkbox for 'fix control acceleration', which is what it calls this effect. Rob Barendregt has written a gauge that assists with the problem of E+1, 2, 3, 4 engine start, or multiple exit openings not working (which is also a knock-on from this effect) but I don't think it fixes control acceleration, and I don't know of another gauge that will fix the problem - does anyone else?

Another way of addressing it might be to change the panel you're using?

Flipside,

The autopilot problem you're having crops up all too often with some add-on aircraft in some installations of the Fs2004.  I don't think anyone has nailed down the exact cause.  It is usually explained as an FS2004 bug, but I suspect it relates more to the FS2004/add-on interface, although I cannot pinpoint the mismatch.   In any case, the fix is relatively simple and can be found in many online forums.  For example, see Flight Sim's FS2004 FAQ site at   http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/fs2004/faq.htm

The relevant paragraph is down the page a bit and it reads:
"Question:  When I try and change the heading or course settings using some addon panels, the bugs move in ten degree jumps. How can I fix this?
Answer: Download Pete Dowson's FSUIPC utility (fsuipc.zip) and check the 'Fix Control Acceleration' box in FSUIPC once you have reloaded FS2004. Once installed, FSUIPC can be accessed via FS2004's 'modules' menu. Bear in mind that this utility is payware."
