Lockheed L10 CF-TCC problem

Postby dodger » Sat Nov 01, 2008 12:03 pm

Hi. I've tried to install the "Postcard from Canada" L-10 (FS2004-Vintage-Page 100) First time I got an all-black airplane with lurid red lettering. Uninstalled and re-installed the NorthWest Airline version which seemed to work OK. Tried adding the CF-TCC textures - didn't work. Tried re-installing the entire file - now it won't show up at all! What have I done?? :-[

God only knows! When you say you installed the plane does that mean it had a installer program?
As for adding textures they are aircraft specific you usually can not just add any texture to any aircraft with out some modification. If all else fails try using system restore to back before you added the aircraft.   8-)

The L-10 posted on that page has black textures with red lettering. This might not be accurate but you obviously installed it correctly in the first place.

If the NW version worked previously I have no idea what you did to mess it up.

Alright Clever Clogs. How did you do that? :P

I've read the original instructions through several times.

PS. Ah OK. I didn't have reflections enabled. I can't find any mention of this in the Readme.

OK, commoner, that's the polished a/c I had before the hard drive destroyed itself. Hagar, the black one is exactly what I got. When you say you "enabled reflections" is this part of FS9 settings? or part of the file? Can you help me with that? As for installing the basic airplane, I tried both methods, the "Unzip all to FS9" and the manual copying of Model, Panel, Sound, and Texture. Neither method worked for me the second time around. If I sound confused, there's the reason for that. (btw, the N.W.A. L-10 file is by the same authors which is why I tried copying the CF-TCC Texture folder over to it) Thanks for all the tips, folks.

The Reflections option is under the Aircraft tab in FS9 Display settings.

Please ignore all instructions/advice to extract zipfiles direct to FS. This is probably the most common cause of all installation problems. I've manually installed both versions of this aircraft separately & they work perfectly.

Thanks, Hagar. I have followed your install advice since discovering FS2002 and going to Grumpy's classroom. The "unzip all" was sort of a last resort in this case, although I confess to using installer programs when included in a download. I guess the confusing bit about this particular file was the "Interesting stuff" folder in the file - I thought that perhaps it needed to be included in the install so did the "extract to FS" thing. Commoner, how did you do the install? (Perhaps I should go back to school for a refresher!)

I'll tell you how I do it. This should work for both versions of this aircraft but it will depend on which utility you use for extracting zipfiles. I use the right-click "Extract to folder ...." or "Extract All" options. Both will extract the files to a folder with the same name as the zipfile right alongside it in the same directory so there's no problems finding it. Open the extracted folder & you should see another folder directly containing the usual Model, Panel, Sound & Texture sub-folders. Paste this folder into FS9\Aircraft. The folder names are FSDB_L_Electra_L-10A & postcrd. Note the lower case letter P on the latter.

You can extract the zipfile containing the VC gauges into the relevant folder using the same method. Then paste the contents into FS9\Gauges. You only need to do this once.

Thanks again. I'll do that after dinner. Hagar, do you ever sleep? It's one in the morning by my reckoning in the U.K. :)

OK, good luck. I've always been a bit of a night bird but I'll be off to my bed soon. ;)

Thanks to all, I re-installed with reflections turned on, and voila - a shiny TCA Lockheed. I saw the real restoration fly and it is certainly a pretty a/c! Commoner, thanks for the a/p tip - haven't gone there yet but worth noting. Cheers
