Problem with new scenery

Postby akka » Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:42 pm

I downloaded a couple of new Japanese airports from the net including Naha, Niikata. The sceneries are supposed to work for fs2002/4. However, when I tried to fly from these new airports, my plane crashed into non-visible objects. Same when I tried to steer into the terminal. It continues to say crash into objects when there is nothing (at least nothing I can see) when the plane is at least 300m from the skybridge or anything visible. Anybody has any idea what is happening?

BTW I must say that these Japanese scenery designers do a very good job. These airport sceneries are some of the best I have ever seen even better than a lot of payware. Hate to have revert back to the ugly fs9 default :o

The temporary fix is to turn crash detection off.

If you think the Japanese freeware airports are good... try the payware ones.  ;)

best,

I've run across this before too. The problem seems to be that the default buildings, trees, and other obstructions, are still there even though you can't see them.  I've found the using a utility called Excbuilder can create a new exclude file, removing the offending structures. Afterwhich, you should be able to reinstall the add-on scenery, and be free from the crashes.

Excbuilder can be found here:

http://www.scenery.org/design_utilities_b.htm

Hope this helps! :)

Hi Groundbound1

Thx for the tip. However, I have tried the new software. Use a helicopter to find the coordinates to be input and generated a new excl files. However, when I tried to steer to the gate, the aircraft still crash like before into empty space

Any ideas what went wrong?

Hi Groundbound1

Any ideas what went wrong?

Not really, it worked on the sceneries I tried it on. After you compiled the new .BGL, where did you put it?

If you get a chance, post a link to the new sceney you're have trouble with. I'll download it and see if I have the same problem. (I've done this before on a KYIP add-on I was having the same issue with and it work, but maybe these are different somehow.)

I tried to put it in the addon scenery scenery folder and then the scenery folder of the scenery itself. No difference. I thought originally it may be the wrong coordinates, so I tried Rwy12 and use the syn to fs to get the coordinates. It is a little bit different from the coord I got from the new program. I put in the new coord using Rwy12, generate the excl file put it again in the addon scenery folder and then the scenery folder of the scenery again. Didn't work.

So here's the link. The scenery is for fs2002 but it should work in fs2004. Everything looks fine except for the invisible objects that crashes all my planes.

ps. Just click on scenery and then the little red dots to download the scenery

Thx for the help.

;D 8-)

As I remember (been a while), that is/was a common problem with fs2002 airport scenery which was imported into fs2004.  Can't remember if there was some "quick fix" for it around or not.

Hopefully what you are pursuing will solve it for you.

Did you try turning off crash detect?

Best,

The answer is yes. When I turn off the crash detect, then it worked but then the planes will behave in a wierd way when U landed too fast. It just bounce up and down like a rubber ball when it should crash.

Hope somebody can solve this problem. Otherwise, I can only fly with crash detection on when the plane lands and then switch it off after it landed when I used this scenery. What a nuisance!!! But as they say "Such is life" ;D

To Groundbound1

I think the problem may be

a) translation of the AFCAD files between the two sims since the object crash seems to have happened in the middle of the airport parking lot way off from the building which should not have anything there except for planes in which case, the sim would have said plane crash. So I guess that the location of the airport may be displaced where there may be trees or other ground objects originally there but now made invisible somehow cause it is covered by the parking lot

b) There are some ground utility vehicles in the scenery which could not be render cause as you said the object file is not in or supported by fs9.

Maybe if you asked nicely someone in the 2002 section would try it in FS2002........might show up some objects not visible in 2004.........BTW, I notice some of the crashes are on the grass........not a problem if you keep off the grass, but still part of it......commoner ;)
