K, try this. Right click on the panel.cfg, and choose "properties", and make sure it's not set to be a "Read Only" file. (Near the bottom of the "General" tab page, where it says "Attributes".) If there is a check mark in the "Read-Only" box, uncheck it, click "Apply", and try again.

Also, after you edit the panel.cfg, try just closing it. It will ask you if you want to save the changes, answer yes.(You may already be doing that, but I'm just not really sure why this would be happening)

it's like adding textures and saving to your aircraft.cfg but when i go to save the changes of the lines you gave me it gives you a little list of were to save it into yea.

and its the panel.cfg i need to save it into.

Good deal! Now, fire up that sim and give it another go. Like I said It may work this time, or there may be one more thing we need to do.

Alright, now try this.

In the Lights section of the aircraft.cfg, change this:

//----------afterburner effects------------------------
light.15=[glow=yellow,2,300]9[/glow],

Well, hmmm. Try it again, but this time, cylce though all the views. IE cockpit, vitual cockpit, tower, etc.

I've noticed that sometimes, when gauges are involved, they don't really go "active" until you need them. So if you're starting your sim from the chase view, and never load the vitual cockpit (which is were this XML gauge loads) the gauge doesn't know it's supposed to be doing anything.

If that doesn't do it, I'm not sure what to do short of starting over.

All you need is to have "been there". By viewing the V/C, the sim will load those gauges. Once The V/C and gauges have been loaded, you can change views, and hopefully feel the thrill of victory and view you're burners.

Excuse me butting in. I think you've done an amazing detective job Groundbound. I've been following this thread with interest & decided to try this for myself. What I can't figure out is where typhoon reheat got those CFG files from.

I downloaded the F-16 Thunderbird here http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military2.htm
& Bob Chicilo's update here http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military64.htm

I installed them in order overwriting files where necessary & also installed the XML gauges from the DSB Typhoon as Groundbound instructed. All works as advertised without modifying or editing anything even without the Eric Marciano panel. (If you do install this panel make sure to use Kirk Olsson's original Panel.cfg with it.)
