New Computer and moving FS

Postby jack_ryan » Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:04 pm

Hi All,

I just got a new computer and I wanted to know if there is a procedure to move my FS2004 install over to the new machine without having to reinstall the tons of stuff I have installed.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sean

I don't know about the program itself (I have a feeling it has code specific to the machine once you install it... registry stuff), but you can certainly overwrite the various folders, and the cfg. by transferring them from your old install. A little more work than copying the entire FS9 folder in one shot, but not too big a deal.

As for how to transfer stuff, if you have a router, switch, or crossover cable, you can network the two rigs and do it that way. Otherwise you're looking at making quite a few discs.

I guess I should of said that I am a Unix Systems Administrator so I have a network at home.  My idea is to install fresh fs2004 on the new machine and then copy the aircraft/scenery/effects/gauges etc to the new box.  What other files/directories should be copied over as well?
