regular graphics slow down

Postby coreservers » Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:46 am

I recently had a major pc crash, so as I'm a bit low on cash, rebuilt what I had and reverted to fs9, everything is fine with the smaler cessna's etc, but If I fly my favourite Cimber atr72-500, every 4 seconds the graphics slow to almost 2 FPS then speed up again after 4 seconds
My specs are P4 3.4ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 7600g 256mb. XP pro sp2.

anyone got any ideas, I've triedreducing settings on both card and pc. the card drivers are 175.16 (175.19 are a nightmare).

Sounds like something is scanning on your PC, your sure there are no programs or virus using those resources?

The specs are fine for running FS 2004 on max settings...enjoy!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif].....

The problem: Very strange...

As has been suggested, have you anything running in the background at the same time...
..such as scheduled updates, etc...?

I always use the excellent "FS Autostart" to start my FS 2004 Sim....>>>

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Syst ... tart.shtml

Enables you to select which background programs to "stop" (with recommendations) before auto-running the Sim... :-*...!

looks like the scanner idea was correct Avast antivirus no less. have manually ex cluded fs9 from scanner and downloadec fs startup.

darn it I was wrong. it's not that it wont run, it just is really annoying especially when lining up for the runway, as it grinds for those few seconds, I noticed the sounds stop also.
tried fsstartup too, to no avail

At first I would have suspected a shortage of on-board RAM shown by the Hard Drive light flashing, indicating FS data being spooled off the Hard drive instead of RAM....this causes "stuttering".....but your 2GB of RAM should be sufficient.

Other problems can sometimes be caused by the plug-in Sound Card (Latency). Is it supported by the latest Drivers....(eg; ASIO4ALL)...?

Paul....!

P'S. ....have a peek at that Hard Drive light when the "stutter" occurs...;)...!
P.P.S...did you carry out a "Full Install" of FS 2004?

I think Paul has the right idea. FS9 may be reading a ton of data off of the CD at the wrong times.
Additionally, my first thought was also the "scanning" idea. I had vroute running for a while (a few hours) once while flying in FS, and over time it started to stutter. Quitting vroute (a resource hog  :-/) fixed it.
Hope this helps.

It's a full install. and the hdd light doesn't come on, during the slow downs. Just as a test. I installed FSX on my H drive, a full install, that didn't require the dvd etc. and the same thing. even on minimum settings. Could it be the anti alaising settings on the card itself?

...well there you go...

You have now magnified your problem by 1,000%...;)...!

The problem you had before pales into insignificance compared to the problems you are going to have now...

...trust me... ::)....

Thought I had it, but no after a few minutes, back it came. I've reset the AA on the card to Application controlled as it was set to 4x, and dropped the target frame rate to 20 it was 35, but it still grinds along. Starting to get really fed up. But will continue. I'd like to just fly somewhere but this makes it impossible.

I had fsx before I had a hdd failure. And rebuilt the pc. to be honest I didnt have as many problems with fsx as i've had with fs9. except it was generally slow.
I presumed fs9 would run much better. I've removed fsx again, as i said it was only a test.
