Tower on Runway

Postby Dan Morera » Sun Jul 06, 2008 7:59 pm

Hi guys I need a hand , I fly in Central America a lot, and found an airport I like but the airport for some reason (cough-MS-cough) has it's control tower right in the middle of the runway.  The airport is MGRT.

I searched for a fix and could find anything

Thanks
Dan

Probably FS9, since this is the FS9 forum.

Sort of makes takeoff interesting. :P

Hi Dan.....never been there and was surprised to see the tower just where you said it was :o

Lots of these silly little bugs in FS9 but there is usually a way round them.....fortunately!

Hope it's FS9 otherwise I am at a loss..........one simple way would be to use AFCAD (free utility) and simply move the runway a little to avoid the tower and move the start points to suit......and if you are really "picky"  move the tower viewpoint.

....in this pic I used another free program called Excludebgl.exe to remove the tower and then Rwy12 object placer (more free stuff) to add a new tower...this all depends on your skills with these sort of programs.......

..........or maybe I could just send you the exclude.bgl which would at least remove the offending masonry .....

.........commoner ;)

commoner is always a great help! he knows a lot about these sorts of things  ;) what he is saying about afcad, is that you should move the actual runway a little to the left or right, thus resulting in having the tower off to the side. moving the runway will not move the tower. by moving the tower viewpoint, it will be close to the new towers location. moving the runway is the main part of it though. but as he also said, the excludebgl.exe will work even better  ;)

Hi Dan...to change the runway position using AFCAD...open  MGRT in AFCAD, then click on the runway to select it and "drag" it a little to one side enough in your estimation to clear the tower...then click View and select show start positions....these will be off the runway as you can imagine so do the same with those..click and drag them back onto the runway........then click Insert and select tower viewpoint...click wherever you want that to be.........done!  Click the save icon and save in the Addon scenery/scenery folder or wherever you keep such stuff..........

I'll email you the .bgl file which you should place in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder to remove the tower...you won't have a tower so you will have to either put up with that or download Rwy12 object placer or BUY the much better EZ Scenery........

Hope one of these things helps...........commoner ;)

Thank you sir, I will use the .bgl  as soon as I get home.  I have EZ scenery so adding a new tower should be piece of cake.

Thank you all

You will find a lot of crazy things in the middle of runways one airport has a VOR right in the middle of it. But like commoner said they can all be fixed with the exclude bgl program and AFCAD  8-)

Ok Dan......glad it went ok for you......as gary said most of these things can be excluded but some are more difficult than others, such as pylons street lights and a few more things.......but that's another story ;D
