Memory Overflow

Postby Conan Edogawa » Mon Jun 09, 2008 6:57 pm

Hey guys,

the last few days, I experienced RAM overflow of my FS9. It always crashes during flying; monitoring the task manager tells me, that RAM usage of FS9 is increasing steadily. At a certain point, it ends up crashing and telling me, that there is no RAM available any more and that FS9 is going to close. This is anywhere on my world, of course I use some Addons.

Well, I got 4GB (or in XP-cases 3,25GB) of RAM, I don't think, there is the problem...

Do you have any ideas? I don't wanna end up flying for only 20 minutes.

Best regards,

Conan. :(

It's probably related not to your RAM module capacity, but the size of the virtual memory cache- a portion of the HDD set aside for RAM functions.
It may need to be larger.

In WinXP, the place to change this is:

Control Panel> System> Advanced> Performance Settings

It's 2046MB big.

An interesting post and I hope you find an answer as I have the exact same problem.
Fortunately almost all my flights are 15 minutes or less so I hardly ever see this but, yes after about 20 minutes or so, the whole screen goes black, that message pops up and you end up on the desktop.
I also have 2 gigs virtual memory allocated and will extend or reduce that to see if it helps.
This only happens on my new PC which has similar specs to yours.
My old PC which has only 1 gig memory, a 6600GT card and 1500MB VM does not have this problem.
A friend of mine down the road has just purchased himself a new PC with similar specs to ours, and he contacted me yesterday afternoon to tell me he also has this problem now.
I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the multi cores, or the extended memory above 2 gigs.
This could spell bad news for FS9 users purchasing a new PC.

Now I told the system to manage the memory, let's see how that works.

I'm testing it by letting the autopilot flying a holding pattern over an addon-area.

I just flew around a bit in Seattle, I had no problems there and no big incresing of my memory.

That would be bad news indeed, especially because we know that Microsoft gives a damn to repair this kind of bug.

"Buy yourself FSX!" "ARE YOU MAAAAD??!!!!"  :o :o :o

I mean I really am NOT the first one reporting this problem!

This one really drives me crazy now! I tried everything, and it still is there!! Task Manager tells me RAM Usage of FS9 during crash is round about 1300.00K

And why does this happen during weekend? Microsoft is not reachable in these days.

I just flew online on IVAO from Hamburg to Salzburg and propmtly within shutting down the engines, I got the error message again! I`m glad the FSP-Report wasn't lost though...

THIS CAN`T BEEEE!!!!

...for God's sake!

I may have found the clue!!

If you have more than 1GB of RAM and still using the pagefile.sys (virtual RAM), deactivate it completely!

Today I flew for about 3 hours and no problem occurred at all.

Even better: It gives you some more FPS!!  :D :D
