Floatplanes

Postby Sean_TK » Sun Jun 22, 2008 8:25 pm

Hello again people,

I have been immensely enjoying the now freeware: Alphasim "Arado Ar196" floatplane, and I am simply curious as to what you guys consider to be the best freeware floatplane/seaplane airport sceneries available for FS2004.
I was also wondering if anyone has a list of all of the default airports with floatplane capabilities? (Ex: Has a water runway available)

Thanks, see ya in the skies,

-Sean

By coincidence, someonre posted this a few days ago:

http://www.fsinsider.com/freeflight/Doc ... %20FSX.pdf

Most of them should be in FS9.

I don't have a "favorite", but I use the one in NY City,

Interesting, thanks!  :)

It looks as if there is only ONE location in the world that is not in the US or is a US territory, which I find slightly surprising. (What happened to Canada at least?!)
So much for non-US floating adventures.

If anyone has any good addon scenery suggestions for floaters, feel free to inform me, especially for Europe!  :)

...we "FS Navigator" users are fortunate in that our Radar Map show all the Float Plane Bases throughout the whole World in graphical form..

..they appear "differently" from the Land Bases in the FS Nav, GPS Radar Map*... :-*...!

So, easy to spot!

Paul....G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Navigator...Joy!... 8-)...!

..another "Floater" problem... ;)....>>>>

..eye-eye!... ;D...!

San Luis Reservoir....note the different colour of the landing strip (Water Blue!)...>>

P.S....just thought about something...The designers of FS Nav must have been able to identify all the "Water Landings" in the FS '98, FS 2000, FS 2002, and FS 2004 "Scenery Files".....so...can you do the same thing from the descriptions in the Scenery files?...;)...?

...and don't forget if you have problems finding a Sea Plane Base!...>>>

There are a lot of very nice floatplanes around. Check out my Lake Side adventure for some very nice examples ...

Why not start at Lake Hood? It is the world's busiest float plane base! I just love it there and with William Morgan's Anchorage International in the front yard and (MAIW) Elmendorf around the corner there's a lot to explore. And if you have Alaska Cinematic, well ... you just can't get any better! There's also a Lake Hood Seaplane Base scenery, made by John Woodward and make sure you also check out the AI Traffic that is available here.

If you have any questions left I'm happy to answer them ;)

A classic, maybe a little silly, but I like Bill Lyon's Grumman Goose -amphibian Package (Vintage p. 80). It comes with many animations, total VC and scenaries in California, Flda., Hawaii and MonkeyIsland :D

I downloaded the Arado, I find difficult to land. (I mean sealand?)

Alphasim frewared too the Cessna T-50 Bobcat, and one of the versions is the floatplane, better than the arado, at least for me.

Have a look here for Joe Binka's Grumman Widgeon, an excellent freeware plane.

Or have a look at the 6 pack Maule download here, the pack contains an amphibeous version which is excellent.

Thanks again for the plane suggestions, but as I indicated in the original post, I am mainly looking for scenery for floatplane operations.

BTW: If you need any scenery then don't hesitate to ask ... I have over 500 scenery addons for Alaska only.
And I'm working on my British Columbia collection which is currently at 220.

I'll see if I can come up with a list of these; there must at least be a couple of floatplane bases in there ;)

Ha ha! Thanks for the scenery tips! I think the BFU stuff will keep me busy for a while, and I'll check in on Harold's stuff too eventually.

Have a great week!  :)

I've managed to put the list together very quickly with Directory Printer. If you'd PM your e-mail address or send me an e-mail, I'll send it to you ;)

;) ;D ;D

I'm racking my brains, but for freeware (as Fozz has said) you've really got to with Bush Flying Unlimited for a great range of scenery. You might like to take a look at Misty Moorings, but this really is designed to work with Holger Sandmanns payware scenery - although his Misty Fjords & Tongass Fjords payware sceneries really are worth the money if you really get into the floatplane thing.

:)

Sean.... ;)...

...and don't forget that TSC's and Fozzer's detailed knowledge and experience of low level "Bush" exploration is an experience well worth contemplating... ::).... ;).... ;D....!
