I remember about shimmering problems in FS9 when I still had my 6800 GT.
I finally managed to eliminated almost completely the shimmering of the trees by playing with the following settings (NVidia control panel):
- picture quality set to best quatliy (VERY important)
- AA set to at least 4x
- AF set to 8x or more
- and then I tested those various "optimisation" settings in the advanced settings of the NVidia control panel. I do not remember what I enabled or disabled, but I remember they had an effect.

Try it :)

Already done all that (well, except those optimisations you don't remember  :D), but for tweaking I use nHancer rather than nVidia's control panel.

I haven't tried to tweak contrast and gamma; are you sure they can affect shimmering?

There are many things that can effect shimmering and basically I'm just making suggestions that maybe you could check as anything is better than nothing when one has a desperate problem.
Basically at the end of the day shimmering is when your graphics are too sharply contrasted and normally the AA takes care of that but for some reason in your case its not, so something additionally needs to be done, but what :)
Ok, I have just fired up my old PC which does not have the problem and has the following specs:
P4 2.6 gig - 1 gig Memory - 6600GTS256 - WinXp Pro Sp3 - Acer 19" CRT monitor set to 85 HZ at 1024x768
The 6600 driver info is as follows:
Provider: NVIDIA
Driver Date: 19/11/2007
Driver Version: 6.14.11.6913
Digital Signer: Not digitally signed
Here I am not using nHancer and everything in the nVidia Control Panel is at default.
FS2004 installed only with Patch 9.1 and Nocd - no additional mods except a few extra aircraft.
Everything set to High and Density to Very Dense with AA ticked on.
Maybe we are missing the obvious and that is the graphic drivers.

...talking about Graphics Card Drivers...

On my previous nVidia 6600GT AGP Card, and my present nVidia 7800 GS AGP Card, I often found that the most "reliable" Drivers were the ones that came with the original CD for the Cards.. ;)..!

Sometimes its advisable to step backwards to "older" Drivers..!

I often do that to cure annoying problems.. :)...!

Newer is not always better!...;)...!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

As far as I remember, I have always had this problem, even with the older drivers. Anyway now I am using the latest.
