Are there some freeware packs with many planes?

Postby Lordluud2 » Tue May 20, 2008 1:57 pm

And again a question from my side.

Because i'm still learning how to use FS9 and stuff, I'm currently not doing any payware.

So, are there some freeware packs that include multiple aircraft that will be installed with an auto-installer?I think this is a much better option then downloading plane by plane. Everytime you get different quality, and in the end you end up with some crappy and some good planes, while if all the planes from lets say one team are in one package, all the planes will work (or not work...  ::) )and they all have the same quality.

If there arn't any, i would like to download and install some high quality WW2 fighter planes like the P-51 Mustang, Hellcat, Messerschmit or F

If you decide to use "Auto-installers" for your Aircraft, you are asking for real trouble/problems!.... :o...!

..much safer to install them yourself, Folder by Folder, in the correct places...

Its been covered before in this Forum... ;)...!

Learn how to do it...trust me... ;)...!

Oh, I know how to manual install (almost all of the aircraft I downloaded have been manually installed) but also a few (5 or so) have been installed with auto installer... Everything works fine  ;D

I've never had a problem with an auto-installer, I have however had problems with auto-uninstallers taking out things that they should not have. :-?
As for multiple planes in one download, most planes that are worth downloading are fairly large files, and to have many in one package just doesnt seem practical to me.
Perhaps if you were more specific about what type of aircraft you were looking for, then people could suggest where to find the best models.
There are also many threads which list 'best aircraft download' that might be a good place to start

As the others have mentioned, you will rarely (never in my searches), find a bunch of high quality aircraft packaged together. As one poster mentioned, this is due in part to size constraints, and also because building a highly detailed aircraft is a long term affair, and trying to built two high quality birds concurrently to be part of a package would be quite a challenge for most freeware developers.

In that regard, I guess I'll start showing my favorite individual planes that I use in FS2004.
http://rossiya.123.fr/e-indac
^^This (if the page comes up correctly), is the "must-have" list for Russian/Eastern Bloc aviation addons.
Take particular note of the An-2, An-14, An-24RV, Tu-114, and both Tu-154s.

Other planes that I would recommend include:

Soko Galeb:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004military28.htm

Utva 75:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props11.htm

Zlin Z-142:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props81.htm

On the western-helicopter side of things, you have:

Bell/Textron 412
http://www.hovercontrol.com/listman/listings/l0001.html

That should get you started on a path of collecting high quality aircraft, plus people usually forget about the Russian types I mentioned, and they constitute some of the best freeware out there in my opinion.
I'll leave it to others to mention some of the top freeware aircraft from the "western-world".  ;)

Also, a few of the aircraft mentioned do have auto-installers with them, and I must say that I have never encountered any ill effects from using them, both for installation and un-installation purposes. In the case of the Russian addons that I wish you to take note of (in italics), I would advise that you use any included automatic installers to be sure that all parts of these complex addons are installed correctly.
Enjoy!  :)

EDIT: Saw that you mentioned some warbirds in your first post:
look for:

p51dver2.zip
@ www.avsim.com

AND

The Alpha Bleu Ciel Corsair Package:

...and guess what?... ::)...!

.....Doing a search for what you want!... :o...!

It's what we spend most of our time doing... in between pretending to fly....;)...!

yeah well, the problem is, there are a lot of planes I would like to download, but i'm not sure about the quality of them. And sometimes when I install one plane, another earlier installed plane looses it's engine sound...  :o
