Help with GMAXflight gazelle

Postby obiwan » Sun May 18, 2008 2:30 pm

Basically I have downloaded this and it's great, but I have only been able to get one texture to work, in spite of the fact I  followed the installation instructions to the letter. Even the default textures aren't visible. Can anyone advise me please?

Odd.  I looked at the aircraft.cft, and it has the code for 18 textures, yet only 5 texture folders were in the Gazelle aircraft folder.  Since there are only five texture folders, I only see the five paints, naturally (No texture, no visual)   There's an all blue "Gmaxflight, Blue pin stripes, Green pin stripes, Grey pin stripes and Red pin stripes.  No idea what the others listed in the .cfg file.

At any rate, check you aircraft.cfg file to make sure it has *at least* the first five (texture"0" through .4") like this:

I assume you mean the Gazelle posted here --> http://www.simviation.com/fs2004helicopters2.htm

Note that it's a multi-part download. The original file (AS341G Gazelle.zip) contains 5 texture folders & the Aircraft.cfg has the corresponding 5 variations.
The FS2004 conversion (Gazelle2004.zip) includes an updated Aircraft.cfg with 18 variations. These are included in the optional addon files Volume 2 & Volume 3.

I haven't tried any of this in FS9 but you would need to install the files carefully & in the correct order for it all to work properly.

Ah.  I must have that and not know it, and the texture files are drifting around in limbo.  :P

Otherwise, how would I have gotten the 18 (total) models listed in my .cfg? :question   :o

The modified CFG is included in the FS2004 update.

Yes.  It gets strange because the original Gazelle seems to actually end up a separate aircraft folder, and vol 1, 2 and 3 are used to build a separate "Gazelle" called "GmaxflightGazelle".  From the "read this" found in Volume 1:

place this file (gmaxflightgazelle) into fs2002/aircraft/

Which has only two folders: Panel and sound, and the cfg and air files (and the read-me)

Vol 2 and 3 add the models and the textures.

It looks to me like it would work just as well to keep the original "Gazelle" cfg in the original "Gazelle", or delete the unused fltsim sections.

Bottom line, is that it looks to me like there would be two "Gazelle" folders in the aircraft dirrectorey, "Gazelle" and "Gmaxflightgazelle".

Or did I miss something?

I've just installed all the files except the updated sound. I pasted all the updated files/folders into the original Gazelle folder overwriting the existing files/folders when prompted. All works as advertised.

Note that the original texture, texture.1, texture.2, texture.3 & texture.4 folders are now redundant.

By keeping them separate, I ended up with a "GMaxflight AS 341G" and a "Gmaxflight AS 342".

After test flying, I think I'm going to swap out the Gmaxflightgazelle cfg with the original "Gazelle" cfg because I keep getting a Your engine is losing power because the mixture is not set correctly Press Control X to complete this action".  You seem to have to do that every ten seconds or so.  On the other hand, the sound of the "Gazelle" needs to be replaced by the one from the "GmaxflightGazelle", since it seems to lack the roter/turbine sound.  Or I could grab the oune out of Blue Thunder.  That's fairly decent sound for a Gazelle.

I don't see the need for two versions. The original Gazelle was intended for FS2002. The updates should make it compatible with FS2004. They also add a DVC. I would have thought that 18 variations of the FS2004 version would have been enough for anybody. :P

If you installed it correctly the folder name should be Gazelle. This is the extracted AS341G Gazelle.zip.

I already have those variations. Must be that Vista thing again. :-/

The "GmaxflightGazelle" came from the "volume1_sound_gauge" in the "Read This" in the "aircraft" folder.

PS, it would probably work if I put them all in the same aircraft folder, sine the cfg has all the textures listed.  The only thing I'd have to puzzle out is which sound to keep (the "Optional" sound had the rotor and turbine sounds), and the then figure out why the "optional" aircraft keep giving me the mixture warning.  That would be the .cfg, right? (No mixture warning when flying the original five versions).

I suppose I will have to download the alternative sound files to check them out. ::)

I downloaded the file named Optional Alternative Sounds Volume 1 (VOLUME1_Sound_Gauges.zip) to check it out. The included installation instructions appear to bear no resemblance to the original download. If you follow them I can't see how it can possibly work.

PS. I understand it now. All you need for FS2004 are these 4 downloads:

Optional Alternative Sounds Volume 1: Alternative Sounds. 15.6MB
Optional Add-on : Volume 2: 10 Extra Model Files. 6MB
Optional Add-on : Volume 3: 12 Extra Textures Pack. 14.4MB

Finally, install the FS2004 conversion. (Gazelle2004.zip)

These contain all the necessary files & make the original FS2002 version redundant. This is what I ended up with.

Yup.  Agree, the folder I have, "Gazelle" is redundant.  It can go bye-bye.

(This was a fun thread!)

I hope the Original Poster had his questions answered along the way...
