POS Delta 767-400

Postby Boomervet » Thu Mar 06, 2008 2:10 pm

The majority of time, when downloading any aircraft, I do not have any problems, I like to consider myself computer literate. I am able to revise/modify to my satisfaction most flight sim files. I have built my own panels, etc.
However my question is, why is it, when downloading a new aircraft file, I often times get a perfectly functioning airplane, but the entire aircraft shows up on aircraft selection page, and while sim is runing as one big totally grey aircraft, fuselage, wheels landing gear, everything. I have checked and rechecked and played with the texture files, extracted them multiple times, tried playing with Aircraft.cfg file, to make sure it is set up correctly, etc. I do not know what I am missing. I am sure it is something simply, I just cannot find it. Please!! Any help! BTW I am COMM/INSTRUMENT/MULTI/CFII rated, with over 11000 hours, I lost my medical and this is my only way to fly now at my age. Sure would like some help. This POS 767 looks like a Nice aircraft, and the flight dynamics look accurate. Thanks in advance !!!!!

Are you adding the repaint to the aircraft.cfg file?

Yes I am, making sure the next sequential flightsim.x file is numbered....LIke I said...I typically never have problems adding a new aircraft. once in awhile this happens, and I cannot understand it.

Look in the [fltsim.x] and make sure the 'texture=' entry is valid.

Example:
For a texture folder named   texture.1234
The entry must be               texture=1234
At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Dave

Thanks I did, the tecture file is labled texture.dnlc, the texture entry is dnlc.

I have tried everything I know, including erasing the entire file entry, compressing my hard drive, reloading the .zip file, and unzipping to the aircraft file all over again, with same result. the aircraft is shown, but no texture for the Delta Livery, it flies normally as well. Just shows up all grey.Oh well, thanks for help.

Hi Boomervet....the trouble with trying to give help is that without the original files...and from where they were downloaded means that only best guess answers can be given............

...where exactly did you get this texture.dnlc and into which particular download are you trying to install it?........give us this info and PRACTICAL advice will be more likely to be available...........commoner :)

..or maybe paste the relevant part of your aircraft.cfg file here .....might help.

Here is the first part of the aircraft cfg file of a 767 400 I just got from the POS website......it as you might imagine gave the same result as yours....this is what can happen even with downloads from POS ::)

There is no entry for texture and the correct name for the texture is in the sound entry.....

Commoner, thanks very much, for help. I am sometimes daunted by the complexities of how Flight sim works. I have played with many aspects of it, such as rebuilding and modifying panels. This is fun and easy for me. Unfortunately knowing just how the flight sim works, and what values effect various functions, and how changing them either helps or hinders, is something I am still trying to learn.
I had given up with this POS767-400, but will redownload and try your fixes.
I guess it is too much too assume that files out on this SImviation site are always working tested files from the getgo.
I had played with the texture file, some, but as I said came up empty.
Will let you know once I have completed this download and re-definition  of the correct texture name.
Again,

Thanks much, from an Old wingless Eagle.

Any ideas??

well that looks fine IF the texture folder is the same name........you can put  texture=alotofbull in the .cfg providing you rename the texture file  to texture.alotofbull   AND always providing the texture folder is present in the right aircraft folder

Check carefully on this point......don't miss the dot when naming the folder.

If that fails then tell me which download and we will take it from there......commoner ;)

IS it one of these?...if it is the NNC one second from bottom the aircraft.cfg is the problem....it starts like this..

[fltsim.0]
title=Project OpenSky - Boeing 767-400 Delta NNC
sim=767-400-GE-CF6-80C2B7F
model=
panel=
sound=DAL_NNC
checklists=

Change to this below.(IE add texture=DAL_NNC and delete the DAL_NNC from the sound entry)... and you should be OK.

[fltsim.0]
title=Project OpenSky - Boeing 767-400 Delta NNC
sim=767-400-GE-CF6-80C2B7F
model=
panel=
texture=DAL_NNC
sound=
checklists=

Commoner,

Yes thanks....I have been very careful about naming contraints. characters delimiters..etc.....I have tried several different file names...
The two aircraft in question I have downloaded are the Semiphoto real 767-432 delta N843MH..and the Delta NC version. Both aircraft do the same thing. I have a perfectly flyable 767, in terms of flight model. panel and all flying functions work normally.
the airplane simply appears for lack of a better description like an Overgrown KC-135 tanker....almost the same shade of grey....at least some of the texture files are working because the cockpit window detail is there....the engine fans rotate...and the landing gear detail is there.
I also tried downloading directly from the POS website, twice. with same results..Nothing changed at all.
Now, I noticed something interesting. If I change the texture file attached to the N843MH semi photo real version..for example: from "Texture" to "Texture.1234", and then make the statement Texture=1234 in the aircraft.cfg file... for one instant, the aircraft appears in the selection window of FS2004 with its Delta lIvery paint normal rotating as all aircraft do around its vertical axis in yaw. As soon as I start the sim..and then check the outside view of the airplane it is all grey. I quit the Sim... go back to the aircraft selection window again and again it is back to all grey. and rotating normally in the selection window. If I change it back to "Texture" again...same thing....then it goes back to Grey.
This does the same thing with the other Paint of this same aircraft "Delta NNC".
I also reloaded my flight sim 2004 from scratch, redownloaded...the same aircraft, unzipped it into the aircraft folder..and it does the same thing.
MY entire flight sim 2004 standard stable of aircraft along with the 40 some aircraft of a wide array I have downloaded over the years still works normally in all regards.
Sorry about this one my friend..it has me baffled.
Just for information sake..I am running on an IBM Thinkstation 8195, with 1 gig of Memory, 120Gig hard drive, Nvidia video card with 128MB, I have XP service pack 2 loaded....along with Direct X version 9C. and all windows updates always kept up including FS2004 Update.
Hope this helps...because I am out of answers...I would really like to get this plane flying. I appreciate your patience with me..and help in guiding me through this.

Hello everyone,
                       I have been following events on this topic with interest,for I have been baffled in the past, I followed commoner`s advice, changed the code on the sound to the texture, typed in the texture of course  and now I have a perfect aircraft, remember me, commoner you helped me sort out the Canberra files, with great respect to every one else, commoner is a genius, thanks again, to all concerned for an interesting topic.

Hi, Boomervet, and welcome.

Just downloaded this file to see what's up, and as usual, commoner has hit the nail on the head. If you insert the 'texture=' followed by the texture name, and delete the texture name from the 'sound=' entry as indicated, then it should work fine - it just did for me.

....I downloaded both your versions and after changing the .cfg in the NNC version it worked perfectly...the photo real version works fine with no changes ........all the files apart from the one typo in the NNC are ok so the problem you have is not one of this nature...never seen it before..... when this happens it is invariably to do with the naming of the thing...

      Sorry nothing to add but maybe other guys can think of a different approach  :-/...will give it some thought and would appreciate it if you can at some point post the answer ;)

Hi Stan....at least you found the CFG mod. helpful.........commoner ;)

ANYONE else care to download these two aircraft and give an opinion?

Here's the offending NNC on my PC...
