AFG's NAMC YS-11 v 2.0

Postby Allen_Z » Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:19 am

Regarding the manual for this aircraft

NAMC YS-11 v 2.0

Using the search engine on the AFG site, searching for THIS, ys11_manual.zip does not find it

Going here, as instructed in the READ ME*, http://www.jyu.fi/~ekkaihla/manual does NOT work

Does anyone know where this manual can be found?

* yes I confess, I read the read me,  ;D sometimes, especially when the ENGINES won't stay running  ;)

The YS-11 and the Tupolev Tu-154M are my specialties!

For the YS-11 manual, download YS-11jac.zip from avsim.com (dont know about here). In that file will be a documentation folder with everything that you need to operate the aircraft correctly. If you have any other questions regarding the YS-11, or even the PT Tupolev Tu-154M, please ask!  :)

Have fun,

Thanks for the link, I'll wait for things to slow down at AVSIM, couldn't get but 30-40kbps

If you have any other questions regarding the YS-11, or [glow=yellow,2,300]even the PT Tupolev Tu-154M[/glow]

You can fly that thing??!! Can you come over to my house and play

LOL, yes the -154 takes a little while to master, buts its a rewarding plane to fly when you learn the procedures!
Glad to be of assistance, and feel free to ask more questions about the YS-11 or Tu-154 in the future!  :)

Awesome isn't it?!

And it probably has one of the loudest soundsets I've ever heard! This one really requires your volume to be down on your speakers so you don't hurt yourself.

I still get into the situation some times when I advance the throttle too quickly and one of the engines autofeathers.....you really have to be careful with these darts! (To rectify this problem, which will probably happen to you some times too, just click the red light that lit up during the throttle acceleration, it should even things out.)

Glad ya like it!

P.S. If I may, I can also point you to the combi version (pax + cargo) at Avsim for sure, and possibly here: ys-11combi.zip
And the African liveries pack, here on SimV: http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props150.htm

Many of the older repaints on various websites work with 2.7 as well! I personally enjoy some Piedmont and Hawaiian paintjobs that I found.

EDIT again: I'm sure the mods are tired of the Avsim references, but I just can't seem to find a lot of YS stuff here. Anyway, there is a VERY NICE Air Caribbean paint up at Avsim that is relatively new: ys-11_v2.7_air_caribbean.zip

yea, unfortunately there is only one YS-11 link here, a nice package, but a HUGE number of repaints are elsewhere  >:(

There are some oddball paints out there too, a UPS livery, pretty nice paint but the guy forgot to paint the wings so it had a Japanese rising sun on a UPS YS-11  ;D easy enough to fix though, I used the Piedmont wings

I may have another look at the Tu 154 since you got the thing flying, I'll be in touch  ;)

Oh yeah, how do I get ALL the paints to have painted cones and chocks? I used image tool to see which textures contain those items but I didn't find 'em?!?!?

About the cones and stuff, to be honest, I have no idea. I have just put up with it on many of the paints, but it bugs me too. I think the red cone and ribbon textures may be hidden on one of the main miscellaneous texture files, but I'll have to look into it again later.

Reinstalled FS a short while ago, so I am redownloading all of my YS-11 stuff right now.

oh yeah #2, got that Air Caribbean, I have it stationed at Robert Bradshaw, St John's, TFFR, etc

and the Hawaiian is at Kona, Hilo, etc

oh yeah #3 I assume you have Rick Piper's HS 748? A very similar and very nice aircraft. More technical and greater detail.

oh yeah #4, there is a Philipenes package out there, this is one of the paints...

whad'ya reckon passengers think of this?

I bet the passengers are pulling out every holy book and token they can think of and have a death grip on it....lol.

As for the HS.748, had it, liked it, need to reinstall it. Two things that I found interesting with that are:
1. The great interactive checklist to let you know that you are operating the craft correctly.
2. And the soundset seemed WAY too muffled for RR Dart engines. The HS.748 uses the EXACT same engines as the YS-11 does, but I think the author muffled the ones on the HS so he doesn't get sued for hearing loss!! (I of course put in "the YS-11 sounds" and loved it)

Great aircraft by Rick Piper though!!

I have a feeling that we will be seeing a number of YS-11 shots in the freeware screenshot forum in the coming hours/days.  ;)

Last but not least, if you really are willing to try the Tu-154, be warned that literally every system in the plane is modeled in the newer M version, and that they use the addon as a training aid at the Tupolev factory and a few airlines.  :o

After you download it from http://www.fs-proteam.com/
you will definatly need to read part of the included manual located in the aircraft folder, in the documentation subfolder.  (Print pages 28,29, and the page range 44-61. This is the quick start and overhead panel reference pages.)

I'll gladly take questions for that which don't involve the Russian RSBN navigation system (too complex and user-unfriendly for me to bother with right now). The developers also have an excellent support forum, and I have noticed that most questions are answered within an hour!

Awrighty then, I love self abuse, so I went and got the BEAST Tu 154

Quick start = Fly Now

Slightly LESS quick start=CTRL+E

(Print pages 28,29, and the page range 44-61. [glow=yellow,2,300]This is the quick start[/glow] and overhead panel reference pages.)

Equals the afore mentioned abuse

Hmm....never encountered that myself.
I am assuming you are using the correct link on this page, installing to the main FS directory, and not having any anti-virus software or anything else running during the install?
http://www.fs-proteam.com/products.html ... tt=catalog

Try doing a complete deletion of the Tupolev in FS, and a re-download and reinstall of the Tu-154M executable file.
Also, I believe the manual suggests loading up the default Cessna 172 in a cold & dark cockpit state, then switching to the Tu-154.
Also make sure you have the latest version of FSUIPC. It does not need to be registered. I don't think this -154 requires FSUIPC, but you never know what kind of strange stuff could be going on, since everyone's system is different.

The only other thing I can say at this point is to ask about these install/setup issues on their support forum. They have probably seen every problem imaginable, and will know how to solve it.

P.S. Control + E does not work with this aircraft, it HAS to be started manually. We'll get to that after the installation problems are sorted. Hopefully things will eventually work out.

Cool, I'm assuming everything loaded correctly!?

As for studying the manual, when I first started with the Tu-154, back when the old b2 version was still new, I simply read and re-read the overview pages of what each subpanel is, as well as the "quick-start" procedure. (Maybe they should just call it the "slightly quicker-start" section....)

Don't worry about the complex Russian navigation stuff right now, like the RSBN, and all of those calculations. I haven't even bothered with that yet. I just use the GPS along with VOR and NDB stations.

With the M model, which I assume you are using, just read and re-read the pages that I suggested you print and perhaps some of that introductory stuff about the panels. Oh, and definately the section on setting up the joystick properly. The joystick setup is required for getting the autopilot to function correctly, even if you don't map autopilot keys to your controls.
Hopefully my print references are still correct and they did not update the manual...

When you want to take a break from that, try looking through the section on the operation of the KLN 89 GPS, since that is one of the main modes of navigation in Non-Russian/Eastern Bloc countries. It's also pretty easy to use once you get used to the right and left mouse clicking deal.

Yes, this plane will take quite a lot of practice, and you probably won't feel comfortable in it for a few weeks, but the more you practice with it, the smoother the operation will become, and I hope through this, it will become an enjoyable and rewarding, as well as addicting, plane to fly. You get bragging rights too!  ;D
