missing landing gear

Postby brettt777 » Wed Feb 06, 2008 8:32 pm

2 questions:
When I import certain aircraft from CFS2, the aircraft is there and appears to fly normal but the landing gear is missing and the control surfaces don't move, Why is this?

And,

What program is used to open up .MDL files? I have a registered Gmax program but that doesn't seem to do it. Is there a plug-in for .MDL files?

The reason for this is the differance in the way the textures are made if you try using jets from CFS2 you will be missing engine fans as well it looks wried looking at a aircraft that appears to be floating. I would suggest that you find a compatible fs2004 aircraft  8-)

brettt777,

Earlier models that worked fine in FS2000/FS2002 (even when imported from CFS2) won't show up well in FS9, as many of the animations are handled differently. This is why the moving parts tend not to show up: fan blades, undercarriage etc.

You'll find that aircraft specifically designed for FS9 using GMAX or FSDS (and there are very many available, including the combat types) will work fine - just look in the downloads pages here to get an idea.

You can't decompile a MDL file using GMAX, or any other program that I'm aware of - and a good thing too, or else no aircraft designer's work would be sacred, and nobody would then bother designing new models if others could then easily decompile and modify their work.

;)

This has nothing to do with textures. The problem is with animated parts on models created for FS2000 with the original version of FS Design Studio (FSDS1.x) & animated with Aircraft Animator. Models created with the later FSDS2 & Gmax do not have this problem. The answer is to look around for later versions of the aircraft created specifically for CFS2/FS9.

Sorry about that I bow to your wisdom Hagar you are correct. I could not remember the reason and thought that was right but after seeing your post I knew I was wrong :-[ :P ;)
