i just installed FS9 and have a few questions

Postby firemonte007 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 5:09 pm

i just installed FS9 on my comp and finally got the AA taken care of (i think LOL) but my questions are how do you take screen shots in FS9? I know in FSX you use the "V" key but i can't find a key assignment for taking screenshots in FS9. Also how do you change the angles of the views in the spot view mode?

thanks for all those who respond 8-)

Ok screenshots..there isn't one. You just press Print Screen (sometimes PRT SCR|SYSRQ) on your keyboard and go to paint (or whatever) and click edit then paste crop as needed.
For angles, hold Shift+NP1 (NP2/NP3/NP4/NP5/NP6/NP7/NP8/NP9)

NP=number pad. On a laptop? Too bad.
FS9 has it's downs...but a LOT of ups :)

There are two or three small progs for screen
shots. The one I use is> MGRAB by Martin Wright. http://fly.to/mwgfx

FSScreen: http://www.simradar.com/File/2791/FSScr ... n_1_1.html

I put it in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures6.

Assuming you have a wheeled mouse, for changing the view, I recommend F1View:

I direct all my screen shots straight to my Desktop using "GrabClipSave" (After Pressing "Print Screen").

I can then see that the shot has been successful.

....and open them with "Irfanview". Re-size them, or whatever, and Save them (again to my Desktop) with their new name.

They are always visible on my Desktop so they never get lost!

Delete them after a successful Posting and/or copying them to my Pictures Folder.... :)...!

Paul... 8-)...!

Using the 'Print Screen' key to obtain screenshots is a very long way around a simple problem.

When you use the 'Print Screen' key, you have to pause & leave FS9, paste the shot into MS Paint (or whatever utility tou use) & save the shot - you have to stop the sim for EVERY shot.

If you use a utility like Irfanview (^^which Fozz has linked^^) then you can set a key to take screenshots & snap away to your hearts content without ever having to pause or leave the sim - all the shots you have taken will be stored in a folder of your choice & you can browse through them & resize them whenever you feel like it.

Cheers,

TSC.

There is any number of freeware multiple screengrab utilities posted on various sites. All work in much the same way & which one you use is a matter of choice. I would hesitate to recommend one as there's so many I haven't tried but I've always found that MW's MultiGrab does everything I could possibly wish for. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/mgrab.htm
Whichever one you choose you have to remember to start the program before firing up FS.

I've never tried the Screenshot feature of IrfanView. What puts me off is that it appears to be a two-handed operation. Ctrl + F11 etc.

Agree with Hagar that Irfanview is excellent for editing but doesn't handle 'capturing' well.

The least obtrusive 'capturing' program I've found is 'fsscreen' (comes up on google); it doesn't seem to cost you frame-rates, you can turn it on every time you fly and it captures every shot that you take by pressing PrintScreen.

For editing Irfanview is excellent; but last time I tried to download it it didn't 'agree' with my computer. I currently use Picasa2, which is just as good (better in one way, it marshals ALL your pictures, not just FS screenshots, and helps you edit them if required).

Best drill is, any time you think you have a good shot, press PrintScreen. Picasa2 will call them all up when you've finished flying, you can delete or edit as much as you like, and save the ones you want to keep. Then call up 'fsscreen' and delete the images on there, they will still be saved in Picasa2.

That last bit is important because fsscreen images are NOT .jpg, they use a lot of disk space, best to clear them each time.

in case it wasn't clear...

click
Start...
then
Programs...
then
Accessories...
go to
Paint
click paint, then edit, then paste, there's your pic

Vista saves pics in JPG by default

Go here

http://www.xat.com/internet_technology/download.html

for a JPEG Optimizer that lets you adjust the SIZE of the pic,

for uploading here at SimV

Not if you assign the capture to 'Ctrl' + '\'.  ;)
