Try "soft horizons"...its on a***m.

File Description:
"Soft Horizons" is an effort to make the transition between sky and ground less extreme for Flight Simulator 9 users
Amidst the blue skies, a link from the past to the future. The sheltering wings of the Protector..

How can we help if we don't know what's wrong exactly?

I'll tell you one thing offhand: if your goal is to make FS9 look like FSX, forget it. Just go get FSX and be done with it.

But if your goal is to make FS9 look as good as it can and still run at better-than-slideshow frame rates, there may be hope. ;D

Yup, I completely agree about Soft Horizons. It's a great addon that really makes a difference IMHO.

Just a thought - if you can't get FS9 as you want it, why do you think you'll do any better with FSX where the PC requirements are higher?

:D  Just a note, but if your switching to FSX because of lousy performance with FS9, good luck.  I do not think there is computer out there that will run FSX to its full potential.  Generally a poor performance in FS9 calls for an upgrade in your system.

And weren't you reluctant to switch from FS2002? ;)

I always get strangely addicted to all my current versions of MS Flight Sims....

..FSX is taking some time...as usual... ;)...!

Paul....G-BPLF... 8-)...!

P.S. I get the "Soft Horizons" effect merely by reducing my "Visibility Distance" in the FS 2004 "Custom Weather" options...;)...!

My problem was flying at areas that didn't have good scenery so i was thinking my FS9 was stuffed up. It's all good now. I just gotta find good scenery for the places i usually fly ;)

Glad the recommendation worked for you. There's plenty of freeware out-of-the-way scenery out there!

Andrew, I also was a staunch FS2002 fan and ranted against FS9 when it came out. Now like Paul, I'm a staunch FS9 fan and have no intention of getting (and my PC quakes at the thought of) FSX. Strange how history repeats itself.

Paul, when I turned down my visibility distance, all that happened was that the hard line between earth and sky got closer! Soft Horizons blends the two together in a distance haze that's quite realistic on my system. I'd get a new card but the whole thing needs upgrading really...

;)

I don't think finding "good Scenery for the places I usually fly", makes very much difference.
No matter what I install in the way of scenery for England makes very much difference to the flat, boring landscape around me....
...which is the reason why I fly daily around the whole of California, with its marvelous, ever changing scenery...a surprise around every corner!..... :)...!

Apart from downloaded airport scenery, and my own designed local scenery, the only scenery add-ons I use are FS Global (Mesh), Gerrish Grey's tree set, and the amazing VOZ...(Colours/effects, and Koorbygen buildings, which works World-wide, as well as Australia!).... :)...!

Those three programs add an extra sparkle to my default scenery... :)...!

All these little delights tend to keep me away from FSX .....at the moment...;)..!

Paul...G-BPLF....FS 2004.... 8-)...!

P.S. Whenever I get the chance to go aloft in the Clubs Cessna 152, I find that I can rarely see anything clearly (at all!) beyond 10 miles....I am surrounded by haze in all directions....
....which is why I rely (heavily) on my Clubs NDB Tower, and my Trusty ADF Gauge (with the comforting yellow needle), to guide me safely back home again...LOL... ;D...!
