gps gauges absent from D/L aircraft

Postby flynhigh » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:09 pm

Have just d/l and installed the A-10A Warthog. It's a gr8 a/c and flies beautifully. However, the GPS is missing from the panel. It doesn't look like it came with the package. Is there anyway that I can copy another gps gauge (Garmin 295 or 500) from another aircraft that has one?? I've also noticed that the gps gauges in the general gauges folder in FS 9 is compressed or zipped up.(fs9gps). Is this normal? If so, how does fs9 access these gauges for each of the planes?

Hi flynhigh....it will be a simple job to add gps to your Warthog.....let's know exactly which one you downloaded and where from eh? ..be easier  to help then.

The file fs9gps is a cab file (looks like a little blue filing cabinet?) and is quite normal, in fact any time you see one of these in a download then leave it that way or it won't work!

Tell us the download and sure to be someone to help......commoner ;)

Thanks commoner for your quick response. The Warthog was in the fs9a-10azip. A Fairchild Republic a/c used in Spangdahlem air base in Germany. The number that was associated with it was 81-0963. The original model was by Kirk Olsson and updated by Maverick.
Looking forward to your reply.

Hi again flynhigh......hope I got the right one here......

..... if so your panel will be like this.....and maybe this will suit your purpose or you will have to do some resizing.....See the TOGGLE on/off? and the nav/gps switch for autopilot stuff?...and this is how the 500 will look when toggled on...nice and BIG so you won't get  lost ;)

Image

Right now, back up the panel .cfg (if you want to) open the panel.cfg and right at the top in the [Window Titles] section.......

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=HUD
Window02=GPS
[Views]
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=10.0, 0.0, 0.0
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.5

ADD the Window02=GPS line as shown.

NOW add this line after Gauge 42 in the main panel list of gauges...

 gauge43=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 276,481,44

OK NOW Add these lines after the end of Window01.....

[Window02]
size_mm=456,378
window_size=0.5
position=8
BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0
VISIBLE=0
ident=GPS_PANEL

gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500,            0,0

Hope you got that  Copy and Paste is best as you won't get typo errors....let me know how you get on.....good luck .....commoner ;)

Very, very nice work commoner!! I opened the panel cfg file and followed your "injections" to the last little comma! Glad I did because my panel looks exactly like the one in your reply. Tested it out on a short Aussie flt and had no trouble at all. How you knew which numbers, letters and signs to add is a bit (a lot) beyond my current experience. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into my D/L
issue. Can't thank you enough.  :)   :)   :)

Adding a GPS to a panel is easy. Deliberately removing it to fly without it is even more fun... ;D
