My ground textures are 'jumping around'

Postby machineman9 » Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:29 am

Its a bit hard to explain... but for some reason when I am just sitting there with the camera still and looking at the grass beside the runway, it starts twitching around.

The ground textures also look a bit victim... as you can see here:

and my system isnt exactly weak, especially not in the graphics department. 512mb 8600GTS graphics.. 2gb RAM, 1.8Ghz dual core

any ideas? I cant remember what ground textures I have on... but the ground details are set to max

cheers

Does this happen everywhere in FS? If so I'd think that one of your texture files is corrupted.

Ahh now if it is all textures then it is probably your video drivers that are the problem. Uninstall and replace with the latest ones available ;)

Im pretty sure it was like this with my ATI graphics card... now im on nVidia... I would guess it be down to something with the textures

One thing I do remember is this 'grass bumpmap' which i think may be part of the problem... but unless i have something to replace it with, i cant tell

It's the textures not the drivers. I had these grass textures once and they jumped around too. ;)

The way to solve this is to go in the .cfg and mess around with some stuff. I don't know what though.

the fs9.cfg. It is something about ground resolution or something like that.

Looks like your detail.bmp file is skewy.

Have a look round for a new one, there are 'improved' ones on most FS sites.

No need for a re-install or anything that drastic...  ::)

If those are picnic grass textures then you just need to start up picnic and reinstall. No need for uninstall. You might have to mess with some checkboxes and sliders for that too. Worked for me.

I had that problem in FS2002 when I first joined SimV. It was one of my first posts on the board. On 2002 all I needed to do was turn down my mipmap setting. Be worth trying on Fs9.

FS9 Doesn't have any bump-map files, it doesn't support it.

Did you even take any notice of what I told you? I'm nearly 100% sure it was that, but yet you took no notice... And now you've ruined your FS9 install, why ask for advice if you wont take it.
