FS9 Choppy...

Postby Ashar » Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:27 pm

Hi guys,
For some reason, FS9 has become very choppy all of a sudden...Just last night, I was flying around EGLL with smooth sim...Today, when I fire up FS9, I get 1FPS...Any idea what could be causing this? The only thing I've done is change the active jetways in the SimWings LFPG to the static ones optimized for AI only...I also added a new AFCAD file for said airport...Any ideas what could be causing this? Oh, and this happens throughout the world...Not only EGLL and LFPG.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Ashar :'( :-/

Is it still running bad after a reboot? Any problems with other games too?

Crash ;)

I don't have any other games on this laptop...I have already tried to delete the FS9.cfg...It didn't do anything...Now that I think about it...Last night while I was flying, FS9 would get these stutters where the FPS would dip down to 3-4...And then 10-15 seconds later, FS would return to normal...I disregarded this, but now the problem seems to have become permanent...I'll try to see what happens after a reboot later and get back to you... :-/

EDIT: The problem persists even after rebooting...Keep in mind that I CANNOT reinstall...Due to a mistake, my CD's are in Rome... :-/

EDIT2: I performed a Full System Virus Scan yesterday...No Virus's, Spyware or Adware was found on the machine...Partly because I only visit a handful of sites on a regular basis...I used Norton (Ignore any AV recommendations please)...I am now running a Defrag with O&O...Will report back after it has been defragged... :'(

Depending upon your system this is not that unusual ESP. with laptops because of the amount of video ram. Each area of FS is a little different so in one place your rates will be fine but when you go into a area that has more detailed textures to it it will bring down your frame rates. About all you can really do here is to adjust your sliders and apply any tweaks to help you out. The best way to find out your worse case frame rates is to use a detailed aircraft go to a detailed city such as KSEA and set up the worse weather you can. The frame rates you get doing this will more than likely be the slowest you should ever get. 8-)

I get what you're saying, but keep in mind that I've never had any problems with the sceneries before...It's something that only just happened...Literally overnight :'(

Sorry, I bet you're getting pretty frustrated?  >:( I guess check for any changed settings. You never know.

Come to think of it, why don't you change one of the display settings? Sometimes, I've found changing a setting will kick FS9 out of a rut, so to speak. I usually lower or raise the resolution, then return it to what it was at originally. I know, it sounds weird...but it works for me. It's fixed texture problems, loading problems, and even FPS issues.

Best of luck  ;D

Yea, I am...I don't understand how one day I get 25FPS at EGLL and the next day I get 1FPS MAX...The FPS counter does not move above 1FPS...I'll try to change the display resolution and such and get back...Thanks :'(

Just tried messing around...No change...I tried a nearby default airport (EGKK) and I got the same problem...I'm at loss now...I've never experienced this... :-/ :-/

Hard to think of anything Ash, heres just a few things I've thought of.

You've done a Virus scan but did you install ANY programme last night that could effect performance of your laptop as a whole? Do you remember how many processes you were running when your laptop was performing OK?

Doing a scan of your registry might be helpful too.

Cheers,
Alex

No, I did not install any programs...I honestly don't know how many processes run when FS9 works properly...Can you suggest a Freeware Registry Scanner that fixes and optimizes? Thanks... :-/

I use CCleaner. I've always had luck with it...but some hate it.

It might also help to delete temp files. I once removed 4.5 gigs of the stuff at once!

Out of curiosity, what are the specs of your laptop?

Finally, if you haven't yet, try flying in the middle of the Sahara, see if you've still got problems w/ minimum ground objects.

CCleaner includes a basic reg cleaner but more importantly will get rid of ALOT of junk from your system, which may not help in this situation but is good for general system maintenance.

For registry cleaners I use Registry mechanic (suggested by NickN) and it's payware, well worth it for the updates too, but for freeware ones I wouldn't know what to suggest, maybe substitute that next payware for the programme, much better in the long run?  ;)

The stupid trial version of Registry Mechanic does nothing...It just tells you should buy to rid yourself of most problems...I suppose I will have to get Registry Mechanic for the next batch of Payware...For now, I've run CCleaner and it doesn't make a difference...I've also defragged with no results...Any more help will be much appreciated... :'(
