cannot start FS9

Postby 1958biggles » Sun Nov 25, 2007 3:46 pm

Hi, don`t know what I have done but the shortcut to start fs9 has disappeared! How can I get either it back (don`t know what I did mind) or can I make another? etc

Any advice?
Thanks

Colin

ok, here is what you do simply...
Press Start, click Run (on Vista, search Run on the search bar and click on run) type in (I think you can copy n paste it.)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9
Click ok.
and scroll down untill you find fs9.exe, right click, copy, paste on your desktop. Bingo. ;)

OR...You could just goto "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9 ", find FS9.exe, right click on it, choose "create shortcut", then move the new shortcut to your desktop.

So I guess the answer to your question, in short would be yes.

Hey thanks guys. Unfortunately whatever I did was something major as I cannot find the exe file. I did find something that I thought was it but now when trying to open FS9 I get the message that the language DLL is missing! I guess nothing else for it but to re-install the whole thing again! DOH!!

Couldn't you just recover it from the CD?  ;D

I think if you put in CD#1 it will give you an option to repair FS2004. Maybe that will fix it for you.

You Cant Directly Copy The EXE to your desktop because when you run the EXE it uses that file to locate everything else as it would think the rest is all in the same directory. so thats why you need to make a shortcut

Been there, done......wait...there now...HEY.....where ... are.....where did all .......all MY BACK-UPSSS GOOOO!?!! AWWWW- MAAAAANNNNN >:(!

(As I was saying.....)

Been there. Done that too.  ;D Program locked up and had to reset. When the computer came back on I didn't have a start menu and the desktop was gone. Did a system restore and got everything functioning again but lost everything in My Documents and Desktop. Had all my recent downloads saved to a folder on the desktop. Luckily I had everything important on a separate  hard drive. Recovered from that and now they are all on CD as well. All I really lost was a few downloads from here at SimV. Got broadband so an hour or so downloading got those back. Backup, backup and backup everything you can't afford to loose.  ;)

I did make backups, but rather than backing up the downloaded zips, and because of the extensive effects and texture mods I've done, I only backed up certain game folders

I use a 150Gig external USB drive. Everything I download goes to that every day or so. From there every week I save it to CD or DVD. Makes for a lot of CD shuffling if I loose everything but that way at worst I only loose a week or so. Recently I lost my hard drive completely but I'd saved a complete copy of FS9 onto the USB drive so everything is there. I just had to copy it over and install all my payware again. Thinking about getting a 300Gig drive and disk imaging software and saving regular backups of my entire drive. If I loose a drive again I can install a new drive and copy the image back over. I have a laptop I can put the imaging software on that'll let me copy straight to the new "C:" drive. Full recovery in an hour or so.
