Scenery to FS Connection

Postby DonAlfonsoRoKil » Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:48 am

Flight Simulator allows scenery files to be placed anywhere on the users harddrive, as long as the folder has the scenery/texture subfolders exist and the path is set up correctly in the scenery.cfg.
I read a strangely described installation guide for some addons.
It tells me I need to place a bgl file which contains the AFCAD layout into the Addon Scenery\scenery folder.
But can't I just place it in the addon's own ...\scenery folder? Or will FS then not localize it in GPS or something else?

I always put the afcad .bgl files in the /scenery forlder of the addon i'm installing. its easier to keep track of and it always works, which is a problem w/ the scenery folder.

I prefer to use a folder inside of the addon scenery folder called AFCAD FILES and put them all afcad files in it.
But you can put scenery files just about anywhere you want to as like you said you have the correct path so FS can find it. But truthfully speaking it would not make any sense to put them on a different drive as all it would do is slow FS down. From what I have read the best way to run any version of FS is to have them on a drive that is not your system drive and then limit that drive to only FS. 8-)

Rev,

I think that the only reason that scenery designers specify the Addon Scenery folder is that FS automatically includes whatever's in there each time it starts up, so you don't have to add it into the scenery library yourself. I do what probably most others do, which is to have a dedicated scenery folder and put everything I add on into there, AFCADs and all. Then, you can add it into or remove it from the scenery library, with all the files in one place so that you know what you're doing. FS knows where it all is and loads it all up seamlessly.
