Will wonders never cease:intersting control issue

Postby beaky » Sat Oct 27, 2007 3:11 pm

FS9 always finds new exciting ways to tick me off; today I discovered that I could not turn right.
No, it was not AP or aileron trim...
Recalibrated the X45; no go.
Plugged in the 290; ailerons OK.
But now I can't properly control throttle with either device. Regardless of aircraft chosen. Full throttle or idle cutoff is fine; anything in between and the throttle jumps around.
Checked assignments/sensitivities... nope.
Deleted the .cfg file.... but no, it's still the same. No aileron control with the X45, and no proper throttle control with either device.

>:(

Tried the sim with keyboard only... ailerons work OK, but throttle is still wonky.

>:(  >:(
I also tried disabling "FSSound.dll", but no change...

There have been a few add-on aircraft recently, but things were fine since the last add-on.

:-/

Anybody have a clue? I'm going to uninstall all the add-ons, I guess; maybe that will help.

Just a shot in the dark. Could it be your keyboard?

Maybe both joysticks and the keyboard have failed simultaneously... but I doubt it. ;)

Maybe update the drivers of the joystick? I'm at loss here... :-/ :-/

Nonooo. I was wondering if the keyboard was the problem & causing a conflict with your joystick. Stranger things have happened.

It was only a suggestion. Wish I'd kept quiet now. :-[

Take it easy, I considered that, but haven't tried it... maybe I should start by unassigning all the keyboard commands. That would be strange and very inconvenient, as I do use the keyboard for some things.
It's amazing how screwed-up things can get when absolutely no hardware changes have been made...  ::)

Tried that.
And what's even more fun, I tried another joystick, but still had one of the two problems. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it.  Why me...?   :'(

Well, before doing anything drastic surely the easiest way would be to try a different keyboard. That's what I would do. You know a lot more about this sort of thing than me but in my experience these problems are usually caused by something simple that you've overlooked.

Just another wild stab, but if you were to remove the joysticks, reboot, uninstall any software related to the joysticks, reboot again, then without reinstalling any joystick-related software (if any) reconnect the joysticks, allowing windows to go through the whole "new hardware detected" process......Might help?

Let's see if I have the picture right. The sim is working, because it responds to keyboard commands. The joystick is working because it works during the calibration.

Had that problem in Win 98, no amount of 'conifguring' the joystick would help.

When I got a new system the problem initially
APPEARED, but ONE 'config' session and Vista, seemingly, has kept it in line.

Keep us updated  :)

I actually had not installed the Saitek software yet (worked anyway prior to today; go figure)... but I tried that, along with a few reboots... no go.

Let's see if I have the picture right. The sim is working, because it responds to keyboard commands. The joystick is working because it works during the calibration.  Sooooooo.. the joystick is not "talking" to the sim.

Make sure the check is in for enabling controls on the first screen for, "settings / controls"..

Also, I've used any number of joysticks/yokes and have never loaded drivers, except one time and it gave me problems like this. Are your joystick assignments so complex that you need the drivers ? Just letting XP "see" the stick/yoke has always worked for me. Are you doing calibration from within the sim; or through the stick's drivers ?  Try calibrating it strickly through windows.  No sim running and no drivers installed.

Also, also.... you can restore the defaults for the primary axes at the sim's calibration screen (not restoring key assignments).. Try that too..

Whish I knew something else to check..

Yes, no, tried that, etc... ;D

The real puzzler here is... well, let's review:

1) X45 would not work ailerons for right turn only.
2) Brand-new unused Saitek S290... ailerons OK. Clearly just a broken X45, right? Maybe, because...
3) Both joysticks: throttle is wild and unpredictable, as if a loose cable in RL. What the- ??
4) With keyboard: ailerons work OK... BUT:
5) With keyboard: Throttle problem is still present!

rottydaddy,

You have obviously NOT bowed to the Northeast on the third full moon after the summer solstice at precisely midnight, whilest holding the stewed eyeballs of a virgin newt in your left hand and repeating the secret spell, "asdasdak ksad ak rkewkmvlja ll;fkas" three times (and the times they shall be THREE... notst two shall they be spoken) while blindfolded and wearing the clothes of an honest man who was born the 7th son of the 7th son.

For shame!
