How to make FS9 look pretty

Postby Layne. » Tue Oct 30, 2007 4:35 pm

Hi guys,
I just installed my FS9 just to use it for screenshots. But i have found that it doesn't look good at all being default. I have everything at max on it and still doesn't look good! How do i make this game look good for screenshots like you guys do? :-?
I am very puzzled :-?

Add-ons, add-ons, add-ons! I can't speak for everyone, but for me it was a matter of trial and error. I tried amost every tree add-on out there before if found one I was happy with. Same with water, meshes, and everything else.

Two words of advise though.

First, back up your FS9 main texture and scenery folders.

If you want to make Australia really stand out, then I'd recommend Vista Australis, aka VOZ from http://vistaoz.org/downloads.html. Definitely get the VOZ AI PACK. I've only had this for one week and have yet to enjoy it because I'm currently downloading SRTM Mesh for Australia by Andy Weir (avsim.com) one territory at a time (one file at a time due to 56K). You might want to check out http://www.virtualvfr.com/ to see if someone will send you a copy.

Also try out: (will be looking at these after putting in the mesh)

http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004/australia.html (not too keen on the Lighthouses)
http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004/whatsnewold.php

Hope this helps.

Edit: Although you didn't mention AC, you might want to try FS2004 International Airline AI Traffic Package at http://www.simviation.com/fs2004jets43.htm

Good for you, Layne!

I hope you have a faster connection than I do. It's been a chore but I'm almost done downloading the SRTM Mesh for Australia. Two more parts for the Western Australia and all of Queensland is all that is left ::)

I dont care much for waterzone...Real Environment Pro and Xtra Water are much better IMO. I also use FS sky World (avsim), many terrain enhancements (found here on SimV) and almost every photoreal scenery known to man. Months of adding/deleting/replacing/tweaking things, and only now can I say that my FS9 is Almost Perfect (to ME) ;)

One of the best freeware add-ons is Airport Enviroment Pro. It makes such a difference. Then I'd start looking at places you like to fly and search for add-ons for those areas, my European and NZ scenery are enormous. But then they're where I fly 99% of the time. A good thread on the whole add-on issue is this one http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1116250697
