This is just a stab in he dark, because the only time I ever saw this problem keep popping up was on an installation of XP that did not have SP2 installed. Since you got FSX installed and running, it's probably not a solution... just thought I'd throw it out there.

I, myself had a problem getting an FS9 scenery cab to decompress. It was on an older computer with an aging hard-drive... A new drive solved that one.

A coouple of suggestions.

The first thing I would do is to make sure the CD is clean & undamaged. A careful wipe with a soft cloth might make all the difference.
Try installing it again. Make sure to disable anti-virus software first.
If you have another CD-ROM/DVD drive try using it. Good luck.

Someone said there might have been a scratch on the CD. There are many and I bought it NEW. (note, never buy anything from amazon.com AGAIN) anyways, I ordered another FS9 about a week ago (my grandpa got it for my bday but he didn't know we had already purchased it) so I'll try that one. It should be here in a week or two.  :-[ I hate microsoft.  :-X

I just thought of an issue that I ran into on my old system, that sounds alot like this. Disable DMA mode for that cd or dvd drive! DMA stands for Direct Memory Access, allowing for faster cd reads. For some reason FS2004 is the only software that I have installed that didn't seem to like DMA. ( Again, installing on my machine anyway) To disable it, go to your device manager and right click on the "master" cd drive (if you have more than one) and check for advanced settings or something. I use Windows 98, so I'm not quite sure how to do it on an XP system. I think it might  take care of your intallation issues.(unless the scratches are real bad) After it's installed, you can enable it again. It worked for me!

No such thing on my system. I have no clue what to do now. The scenery is f***** up because these were the sceneries that were "errored": Paris.cab (I could care less about paris), Phoenix.cab (I never fly in phoenix anyways, and World.cab (oh my, that would be my autogen scenery  :( ) So, that explains the, no autogen scenery.  ::)  :o Yes, why did it have to be the autogen? whyyyyy????!!!!!???? I'll fix it eventually, keep posting suggestions, and I'll keep trying.

***I hate microsoft.***

Doesn't MICROSOFT make the sim you are complaining about, NOT installing correctly?

MANY MILLIONS of copies of these sims install correctly.

KEY WORD THERE IS COPIES <- - -!!

Microsoft made them correctly or MILLIONS would be unable to install them,

YES?

Live chat with a Microsoft Customer person. They are researching what I need to do. Maybe I need to clean the disk off with soap er something.
