Well, here is what I did next.  I did a file search for fs9.exe.  4 exe files came up. 2 of the them were Prefetch exe, whatever that means.  Now the interesting part.  I have my drive partitioned into C and D.  FS is on the D drive and is the only thing on it.  The exe file found in C was the original that I saved, but I never changed the name.  The one on D was still the older version even though I had updated.  I renamed the original on the C drive, then tried the update.  It installed it and said it was successful.  However, when I check the file version, nothing had changed.  Could it be that I have flight sim on the D drive and the update is automatically creating an exe on the C drive?  If so, wouldnt the new exe on C show the newer version?

Well folks,
All I can say is that I bought a REAL (not pirated)microsoft FS9 from Singapore  in June 2005 - it already came with the 9.1 patch implemented in the install. Then I got the NOCD crack - no problems and no FSUIPC either. I think the issue is if you have the FS9 WITHOUT the patch (unlike mine which came with 9.1  out of the box), then put in the NOCD crack BEFORE you get the 9.1 patch from microsoft, then you'll get problems. Maybe that's why some people have problems and some (like myself) don't. I have tried it both with FSUIPC and without. Either way it's fine here in Australia. I still can't understand why the fs9 FSUIPC costs money and was free for fs2002. Maybe we can twist Mr. Dowson's arm a bit so we can have it for free - maybe send him a donation or sweet talk him. (I'm not good lookin' enough to sweet talk him, let alone the fact I'm male!).
Happy flying folks ;D

The patch made some scenery improvements to FS 9,
After installation, goto Help >>: About FS9 >>>
Should say : Version 9.1  Build 40901.01  .
With this patch installed, the No CD version  of FS9.exe should be :9.1 0 40901, while without the patch , the No CD is 9.0.0 30612.

The latest version of FSUIPC  ( Jan 2006) is 3.53

Good luck to All

I think there shouldn't be any patches... the maker of any game should have checked it very very carefully BEFORE they release it....... very very obvious that you should do that! ::)

Oh dear, NECROPOSTING!

You shouldn't really have posted anything on this unless it was contructive to the whole thread. (damn, i've just done the same thing!)

Of course things will need a patch from time to time. If we were all running on a stock system like a PS2, XBox, etc. your statement would have some merit. However, with PC's, there must be an infinate possible amount of different computer configurations and no number of testers can forsee all problems.

If there were no patches, the programs couldn't progress. After all, you could argue that FS9 is really just FS8 that has had a major patch done, as they are so similar.
