did anyone actually read the explanation for the 'seasonal crash'... something any programmer should find out before he releases any program, a variable space problem (FS2002 had a maximum of 16 textures on one 'tile', FS2004 has more, but they frogot to alter that in the first release)

1. Enabling AGP texture acceleration

Isn't this done automatically if your g/card can do it?

What exactly did you do to turn it on?

Can someone take a minute to clarify the whole no-cd patch thing.  I downloaded the new MS patch, installed it, it said it was successful, I clicked on the no-cd emblem like I did before and was off and flying.  If the new MS patch is an update to the FS9.exe, and the no-cd patch accesses the now revised FS9.exe, why do you have to re-install the no-cd patch?  I notice the new bridges and such so it must be working.  Am I thinking about this correctly, or should I replace something or modify what seems to be working?  Thanks, Todd

If I understand the M$ read me about the patch, it says nothing to the fact that the patch will not work if you use the No-Cd patch along with it, but does state that if you use a third party patch some of the "fixes" might not be noticable.

So in all you install the patch and run FS9 with the No-Cd exe, and you might see the bridges but none of the other fixes M$ says it made.

The only way to test the effects of the patch would be to have

1) FS9 as a fresh install w/o no-cd patch,

2) FS9 fresh install with no-cd patch,

3)FS9 fresh install w/ M$ Patch w/o no-cd patch

4)FS9 fresh install w/ M$ Patch & no-cd patch.

This is the only way you can compare what exactly has been changed and what is going on. Seems like a job for someone besides me ;D

I installed it, and I can't say as that I have noticed any difference in my FS, except for a minor increase in FPS.  My no-cd patch works fine, so I didn't really lose anything.  All in all, I would say it was a little pointless . . . ::)

Well when I built my computer, I failed to install all motherboard drivers and I could not enable AGP texture acceleration.

[quote] :) ;) :D ;D

I have no cd installed and just finished the installation of the patch 9.1 - NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

My "no cd" is operatin normally - all my add-ons, all my aircrafts, etc etc are 100% workin.

But there is a lil problem: FSUIPC is NOT WORKIN!
I have the registered version 3.15 (or somethin like that) and fs keeps saying me that is incompatible and it'll turned off - then I got a Crash To Desktop, so I've decided to REMOVE all fsuipc.* files and now it's running quite perfectly, as a matter of fact i think I sense a frame increment - dunno if I'm only impressed but I think some sceneries are running better - got flyin a lil more in order to prove this.

that's it - hope I've helped!

cya!

So I guess Alosaurus went exactly my system did, no problems at all - only the FSUIPC 3.40 registered demanded in order to work 100% right!

Good!

Well after erading this thread I decided to go for it & install the Upgrade.

I use the No CD patch (wouldn't use FS9 if it wasn't for this) & no problems installing the upgrade

Quotes from the FS9 website:

Issue with FS9.EXE -
If the FS9.EXE file has been modified or corrupted, the update may terminate before completing installation. A message will display: "The original file (fs9.exe) is either missing or has been changed from it's original state. The update cannot continue and will now exit".

Didn't happen.

Note: This FS9.EXE will require a CD in the drive for Flight Simulator to run. If any action (such as re-installing a modified FS9.exe via a 3rd party add-on software installation) causes an overwrite of the updated FS9.EXE, you will lose significant fixes included in the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update).

Didn't have to reinstall the FS9.exe. After installing the 27MB patch my FS9 started fine with no prompt for a CD.

My framerates vary from widely 10 to 65 on any particular flight so who can tell if there is an improvement.

I like the extra bridges but apart from that I can see it as little other than a scenery upgrade. I don't use FSUIPC so that's not an issue (never needed it)

Don't see any performance changes

BUT

the 2 bridges nr Edinburgh (Scotland) are stunning

the Humber Bridge is better than the addons that are available because its ramps join the ground

the 2 bridges nr Bristol are fine (were they there already hummmm?)

I'me using the no-CD version after installing the update (just ernamed and switched back again).

Without knowing the details, it's difficult to see how the fs9.exe version can lose enhancements for you given the nature of the enhancements that have been done.

In any case, if you check file dates, I'm not sure the fs9.exe was modified - but I'll look more closely when I do my other removable disk.

When I try to install the patch, there is an abort window that open and it is written ''Callback0D''. What can I do with that?

I can't use it. I got a long list of errors, all concerning dll's. FS 9 wouldn't start up any more. Even after removing fsuipc it didn't work - I had to remove the patch.
I have tried removing 'autostart ', I have removed the no-cd patch - nothing worked. Well, removing the patch worked....

Re: FS9 patch DOWNLOAD and known issues

There's a long list of known issues with 3rd party software on the download page. It also suggests ways over them. I suggest reading them through carefully before downloading the update & installing it. This is the relevant part.
Issue with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) -

The first time you run Flight Simulator with Windows XP SP2, alerts for the Windows Firewall may be hidden. To see these alerts, either task switch away from Flight Simulator by pressing ALT-TAB or switch Flight Simulator to windowed mode by pressing ALT-ENTER. If these alerts are not cleared, some functionality such as connection to the web and multiplayer sessions will be lost.

Issue with generic.bgl and the Update setup -

Some third-party scenery providers update generic.bgl as part of their package. In certain cases, this updated generic.bgl file will cause the Update to terminate before completing installation. A message will be displayed: "The original file (generic.bgl) is either missing or has been changed from its original state. The update cannot continue and will now exit". You need to re-install the default generic.bgl file that came with the original Flight Simulator 2004 setup files before attempting the update installation.

To install the default generic.bgl file:

Insert the "Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight" CD-ROM number 3 in your CD-ROM drive.
Click the Windows Start button and choose "My Computer."
Highlight and right-click the icon for the CD-ROM drive containing the number 3 CD-ROM. From the right-click menu, choose Open.
Select MSGAME8.CAB and open it using Windows Explorer.
Copy generic.bgl to the Generic\scenery subdirectory of your Flight Simulator installation directory. (For example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Generic\scenery.)
Remove the CD-ROM from the drive and restart the Update setup.

Note: Previously installed the 3rd party add-on software for Flight Simulator may not work. If any action (such as re-installing the 3rd party add-on software) causes an overwrite of the updated generic.bgl, you will lose significant fixes to performance and autogen included in the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update).

Issue with various module .dlls and the Update setup -

Some third-party providers might have updated various files located in the "Modules" folder (for example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Modules) of your Flight Simulator installation directory. In certain cases, these updated .dll files will cause the Update to terminate before completing installation. A message will be displayed: "The original file (gps_export.dll) is either missing or has been changed from its original state. The update cannot continue and will now exit". You need to re-install the any .dll file that came with the original Flight Simulator 2004 setup files before attempting the update installation.

To install the default gps_export.dll file:

Insert the "Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight" CD-ROM number 2 in your CD-ROM drive.
Click the Windows Start button and choose "My Computer."
Highlight and right-click the icon for the CD-ROM drive containing the number 2 CD-ROM. From the right-click menu, choose Open.
Select MSGAME3.CAB and open it using Windows Explorer.
Copy the affected .dll (for example gps_export.dll to the Modules subdirectory of your Flight Simulator installation directory. (For example, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Modules.)
Remove the CD-ROM from the drive and restart the Update setup.

Note: Previously installed the 3rd party add-on software for Flight Simulator may not work. If any action (such as re-installing the 3rd party add-on software) causes an overwrite of the updated module .dll file, you will lose significant fixes included in the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update).
