pc crashes over and over

Postby airfixx » Sat Aug 25, 2007 8:15 pm

hi guys..........new here.......I have a problem that just started happening yesterday, and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with it.............in fs9, and fsx, every time it just gets giong down the runway, or just after a few minutes, my pc shuts down and goes into REBOOT..............I checked the EVENT VEIWER in control panel, and it states , " THE PARALLEL PORT DRIVER SERVICE FAILED TO START ( or cannot be started ) EITHER BECAUSE IT IS DISABLED, OR HAS NO ENABLED DEVICES ASSOCIATED WITH IT"............I noted the exact time my PC would reboot, and this is listed as the error at the exact same time in the EVENT VEIWER. I checked all visual connects and they are all connected. The only thing that has taken place in the past few days is that I opened her up and added 1 gb of ram in its slot..........I'm always VERY careful and nothing was jiggled lose..........I'm totally baffled at this point, and I'm reachin out...........THANKS to any help on this from my fellow simmers....the sky's the limit.

Howdy Clipper. Hope I didn't step on any toes by welcoming Airfixx before you fellas! :-[ :)

Ya know airfixx, I'm no professional when it come to PC diagnostics by ANY means, but I've built every machine I've ever used from spare parts. So you can imagine that I've had to figure out my share of hardware and software related problems! Truth is, your machine's problem could be any number of things. Clipper is right though, if I can't help you, one of the other members is sure to be able too. ;) Stay tuned!

Hi

I suggest running a few loops of Memtest86. Since you just installed a new stick of memory, it is possible it isn't up to specs and has errors. Memtest will find any and you can exchange the stick for another one.

As for the "THE PARALLEL PORT DRIVER SERVICE FAILED TO START ". This entry was probably made at startup and most likey is nothing to worry about. Do you have anything plugged into the port, a printer or something? I would guess there is nothing plugged into it.

Good luck.

Also, check the BIOS and ensure the service is actually started... ;)

Is your motherboard able to handle a 1gb memory module in that slot?
