Making Backups

Postby a1 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 9:20 pm

I just found out that I can't back anything up from the main Flight Simulator Folder. I tried to put it all on a disk but it just won't let me. I think it is the copy protection thing. I can't even backup addons from that folder. What am I supposed to do to keep that folder in a safe place. :-?

PS: The folder is 17.8GB if that makes any difference.

Umm, it might not let you put it on a disk because you dont have enough room.  A DVD holds 4.7 GB, a dual layer DVD holds 9.4, and that's the most you're going to get.

I mean i just want to put certain files on a disk. I wouldn't put the whole folder on something.

Strange..... I already have backuped my 26GB fs folder about a year ago and it worked.
It can't be the protection because FS9 has only "SafeDisc" (just the name, not true), which is checking the CD4 when starting your FS (if you don't use a no-cd crack). Maybe it helps to go to rightclick>settings with your fs9 folder, then uncheck the boxes for "hidden" and the other thing that protects from writing....
Is there an error-window?

Yeah an error window saying that windows has found an error and can't copy something.

A dual layer disc is 8.5 gigs...  ;)

I back up my FS9 folder all the time......

Are you backing up to a CD or DVD?

If your copying to DVD, you normally can't

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

If you have slow dialup, that's no easy, or quick task. Also, on occasion, there are high quality addons that are only available for limited times. Backing up addons that you've had to modify can also save time...

I don't think it's anything FS-specific (unless, perhaps, you have the program running while you are trying to copy portions of it...?)
I suggest you try copying some other files to a disc to see if there isn't some new problem with your burner or its drivers, etc.
