Well, now here's a whole new conundrum:

I reversed the search and started looking on the disk for files that were on the computer.  But it couldn't find them.  I searched three different file twice each, with no results.  It seems that nothing on the computer is on the disk, and nothing on the disk is on the computer.  How the heck does THAT work? :-?

Disk 3 has the .cab file (8) for the areas your missing as well as additional cities (6 and 7).

Couple of hints (maybe you use them already):

In Explorer use 'Folders' . Also View>Details. When you explore a .cab file, the file list (right side) will have a 'Path' column header showing you the file destinations. (Right click on column header and activate 'Path' if necessary)

An easy way to unpack is to use the 'cabdir.exe' program, located in your FS9 main folder. Create a temp folder somewhere convenient and copy 'cabdir.exe' to the folder. To unpack a .cab copy it to the folder and then drop the .cab file on 'cabdir.exe'. It will create a folder and unpack with paths.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

In addition to what Dave just said, I don't think it's as simple as placing the Cabs in the required places. You have to unpack them as well. They're compressed files which contain the required scenery bgls and textures bitmaps.
Unpacking them with Winrar or Winzip should work as well, giving you all the directories in them if there are any.
Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong.  ;)

Well, I tried doing what Dave suggested, but unfortunately it seems I have a bad disk.

When trying to copy over one of the cities .cab files, I get an error message that says it can't copy HONGKONG because of a data error (cyclic redundancy check), which I can only assume means the computer gets itself stuck in a loop and then rejects the thing as possibly contaminated somehow.  So I believe I have a bad disk.

Guess I'll have to cough up 20 bucks if I want to keep flying . . . :'(

Have you tried cleaning the CD? and/or does the CD have visible damage?

A good cleaning and/or surface repair may resurect the data.

Thanks Chris. I'm flattered. 8-)
This was all done using the Recorder module for FS9 for a screenie contest a while back. Each craft was positioned manually and recorded, then i took the shot and voila...

Well, I cleaned by the conventional means (wiping with a clean cloth) but I don't have a CD cleaning thingy.  Might try that first . . .
