Noob Question regarding De ice and pitiot heat

Greetings all, i got two questions

In what situations would i need to you the de- ice equipment and the pioit heat.

a detailed explanation would be useful.  how long to use it an so on

Hello.
Just to get the terms straight
DE-ICE is to get rid of already accumulated ice on the aircraft (such as de-ice boots on turboprops, for example)

ANTI-ICE is used to prevent eventual ice build-up.

In passenger jets you usually have two sets of ANTI-ICE:
Engine (Nacelle) anti-ice (EAI)
Wing Anti-Ice (WAI)
Together they form the accronym TAI (Total Anti-ice)

For EAI
"3.Engine anti-ice:
Must be ON during all ground operations, including after landing, when
icing conditions exist or are anticipated.
Must be ON during all flight operations when icing conditions exist or are
anticipated, except during climb and cruise when the temperature is below

I've only had suspected icing once in FS. While flying one cold and wet day, my airspeed indicator stopped working after flying through some clouds. Turning the pitot heat on for a few moments seemed to rectify the situation, and I continued flying without any additional problems...

Maybe it was ice, or maybe it was jus a freak occurance...

It was pitot ice... and, if you keep flying in icing conditions, you're airspeed and altitude will start falling off, too.. Airframe ice..

If you don't have de-ice available, you had better get to a different altitude (usually lower), or better yet... on the ground, or you'll fall out of the sky

Does FS simulate Carb ice? I've had it show up a few times in real life, but never in FS...

No.. far as I've seen, MSFS does not do carb ice..
