Square Clouds?

Postby VE3PKY » Wed Jun 27, 2007 8:29 pm

I've been experiencing some strange problems with "Square" clouds in FS2004. The problem occurs primarily when flying in Southern Ontario (I use the FlightOntario Scenery.) The problem comes in two parts:

1: I always have clouds, even when I select "Clear" weather
2: Some of these clouds turn into White squares periodically, then turn back into clouds

Thse problems don't occur if I fly in other parts of the world. This wouldn't bother me so much, if it would let me clear the clouds!

This only started recently. I've tried updating (Then Backdating) drivers , but no success. Any Ideas?

I'm using a 2GHZ P4 dell machine with 1 GB RAM, and a PowerColor 9600 Pro card with 256 Mb Memory.(Catalyst 8.383 drivers)
(My other games, such as IL2 and Falcon 4 are OK)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Wow that really looks wired! I hope you do not have that scenery program for canada FOZ z or something like that the name escapes me. But any way it looks as if your clouds may have been changed. The scenery I am talking about was bad about this kind of problem I am sure others will know the exact name of the scenery but it was for canada. 8-)

I had the same problem awhile back with a alaska scenery package. It had something to do with missing models in Runway12. Don't think that would apply here, but the problem looks identical, except in the sky.

You might try using an earlier version of the Catalyst drivers.(latest is not ALWAYS greatest) Make sure to UNINSTALL the old drivers first, don't just "roll them back". ( I've been told to this in safe mode)

Might simply be the add-on that you got for that area.

I'm running windows XP. I've tried changing the driver (I use DriverCleaner to Remove old driver, then Install new driver after rebooting). Still no go.

I've also noticed some bizzare texture issues. Here is the approach to the Toronto Island airport (This only occurs at some viewing angles).

Since these problems showed up at the same time, I'd imagine they are related.

Unistall the add-on and see what it happens. Or maybe it will have to come down to unistalling FS and reinstalling.

I think that looks pretty awesome!

Don't change a thing, have a couple of beers, smoke some weed, relax and enjoy the show ;D ;D ;D

That's almost scary! Never saw anything quite like that before. Wish I could help.

Removing the add-on to see if that solves the problem is the most logical way to go... since it doesn't happen anywhere else...

Problem is now resolved!!!

Thank you all for your suggestions!  I did a complete re-install of FS2004 and also Golden wings (My Golden Wings install was experiencing the same graphics corruption, even though it didn't have any other addon scenery!).

Now I no longer have any square clouds or other "phenomenon", and my latest ATI driver seems to have improved performance as well.  (It did take me 4 hours to straighten all out, though!).

I wish I knew what caused the problem in the first place, so I could prevent it in the future.

Now that the work is done is the time we sit back, have beer, and smoke some weed!  ;D

Weed really ruins work ethic! ;)
