Transferring airplane files

Hi
  Can I just copy the airplane addon files from one computer to another?  are their any instructions anywhere or is best to start from scratch.
     My old laptop has issues and I just got a new one. I loaded FSX,but having a lot of problems with it. I reverted back to FS 9, but would like to transfer old airplanes.

Most should copy no problem. Just don't forget sounds, gauges and effects

yeah... I did that once and forgot the effects... I had to redownload the file

If you've got a lot of addons, it's best to 'block copy' the folders, ie, aircraft, gauges, sound, effects into the main FS9 folder on your new machine. Many freeware AC use gauges from more than one type of aircraft (the old Concorde gauges are common in many types for example) so tracking them down to each specific AC would be nearly impossible.

As a downloaded lunatic, I keep most gauges. I have FSManager 2.85 to sort to a separate HD. When 700mb worth are saved. I then transfer to a CD.
A lot of designers of aircraft or panels, assume some common looking gaues are already on your computer! Not always the case, then you have to go searching. From time to time I will update those saved, with gauges coming in. Not such a terrible job.

Why not do as I do and save all zipped downloaded files to a DVD or CD so they are always all available. I suspect most modern(ish) computers have recordable drives?

 Just  :D    Just a suggestion for future use, but I always put the gauges in the panel folder of the aircraft.  It saves hunting for them in the future.  But, as suggested, I have copied the entire sound, effects and gauges folder into the new install.  It will simply add the ones you don't have and overwrite files with the same name.
